Question on quality modes...

    Hard OCP says:

    High Quality is for those that have performance video cards with 256MB of local video card memory. High Quality does not compress normal maps at all, so there are no compression artifacts with any of the normal mapped textures. It does, however, compress specular and diffuse lighting. At High Quality, anisotropic filtering is automatically enabled at 8X. So along with the uncompressed normal map textures, you also are adding 8X anisotropic filtering to the performance and image quality equation. Depending on your system, we have found 128MB video cards that can handle High Quality mode very easily.

    While the dot plan says:

    High quality uses compression ( DXT1,3,5 ) for specular and diffuse and no compression for normal maps. This looks very very close to Ultra quality but the compression does cause some loss. This is the quality that for instance the PC Gamer review was played in.

    So what one is true? If AF is set to application preference and doom 3 is run at High Quality does it run at AF 1x(standard) or does it do what Hard op says and set it to AF 8x??

    I ran timedemos with it at application preference/2x/8x/16x on high quality and all came within .6 FPS or less so whats going on?

    There is a file called Doomconfig.cfg. If you set the game to high quality, and look in that file, you'll see the anistropy setting is set to 8. If you set it to medium, you'll see the anistropy line is set to 1. I believe if you try to force AF in the drivers, but it is already set in the game, the drivers will not override the game setting. Forcing AF in drivers will only work if AF is not set in the game. So, when you ran those timedemos, they were all running at 8x, I believe.
