Or GoW's "kill 10k people" which is cliffyb's idiotic idea for keeping GoW at the top played games chart.

Rage for iOS is free right now, so grab it quick if you don't already have it!

Rage looks rahter unintersting to me, just another FPS with homogenized mechanics. Regenerative health and defibrillator and hundreds of dfferent "incidental" pieces of cover.

It's beautiful and gameplay seems interesting enough to me...

It looks like what I wished Borderlands and Fallout 3 had been. Superficially, anyway. Gotta get me hands on it to be sure. ;)

RPS has a nice hands-on report on it (feel free to read, no spoilers) and it's not your regular preview. Here's a taste:

That's great. I was worried that it was basically a slow quake 4 with a few more interesting weapons and more wandering between fights. That's how it's appeared from trailers I've seen. Good to hear that there is some real substance to the game.

Quake 4 was reminiscent of Elite Force to me. I think they may have even had one of the same voice actors. I think it was definitely better than Quake 2 though (other than the un-Quake-like soundtrack).

Looking forward to Rage. I'm a sucker for any game that combines exploration/open world with shooter combat.

Couldn't disagree more. I think in isolation perhaps Q4 is the better game, but at the time Q2 didn't have any real competition. I've completed Q2 more times than I can remember but I still haven't managed to grind my way through Q4. Q4 just didn't compete that well with other shooters at the time IMO. It was pretty, but quite dull in the shooting department.

Rage on the other hand... we'll see. It's going to have to be very immersive and atmospheric (a la STALKER:SOC) to maintain my attention.

I've never been able to get very far in Q2 without losing interest. I usually play a few levels and then forget about it. However now that I think more about Q4, which I've also never managed to complete, maybe I'll just allow you to put Q2 on a higher pedestal because it came first and has a sweet soundtrack. ;) Q4 felt safe, simple and soulless.

I agree that the STALKER series is the bar that Rage is up against. But STALKER doesn't officially have vehicles and it has many load zones. I've also played them to death. I really hope Rage ends up being what I think Borderlands should have been.

Oh come on, Borderlands had its flaws but overall it was great! If Rage is in the same vein it's an instant purchase.

I'm not at all surprised Rage works much better when you get to play it from the beginning at your own pace rather than just get dropped into some action moment or whatever like in a typical marketing department-generated trailer.

Imagine if you got to play Zelda: OoT starting from sitting on Epona's back in the middle of the central grassy prairie, rather than beginning in Kokiri Village like you're supposed to. It's the same game in both cases, but you would feel something was amiss, I'm sure.

If you like the parody theme and want a multiplayer shooter with elements of Diablo then yeah Borderlands is awesome. I hope Rage is nothing like that though. Besides, there's probably a Borderlands sequel in the works somewhere.

In never went online with Borderlands and had a great time with it.

And yeah a sequel is definitely in the works. Think I saw the official announcement somewhere actually.

I have to agree with you there. Q2 at the time was the best FPS available with full Voodoo support. I have replayed it quite some times. I never did that for Q4.

Other than co-op a few times, I never played Borderlands online. It had a very "Firefly" feel, which resonated with me. I enjoyed playing it alone. Grinding was actually kind of fun. I think iD would be wise to make Rage a better looking Borderlands.
