I don't think you're 'getting' it, still. It IS one massive texture for all intents and purposes, on a logical level. That's what gives the engine its ability to offer unque texturing for every surface.

How it's divided up underneath the hood doesn't matter, as neither the player nor the artist designing all this stuff never notices that. When editing the megatexture the editor would only load up the surfaces you can see at that point, you wouldn't have to load a single 16 gigabyte or whatever ridiculous number texture into photoshop to fiddle with a couple texels on some wall somewhere.

I think you need to go read a primer on how this stuff actually works, because people get frustrated from trying to explain this to you. :)

His "fall" nonwithstanding (not really sure what you're on about here), I'm pretty sure he could beat anyone here on a general brains/IQ level. He designs rockets in his spare time for chrissakes! ;) So he's still a god I'd say.

Its not that hard to build rockets. You just have to like fire and blowing things up. :-D

Seems a bit early to start the hype again, but meh what do I know about marketing? 7 months seems a long time ahead though.

I don't see how they expect this to receive a "Teen" rating. I saw a couple videos of people being decapitated by that throwing weapon.

Anyway, it looks pretty damn sweet. I need to take out a loan for all the crap coming out.

Guessing Zenimax put a halt to that. It wouldn't surprise me if Carmack or someone else on the team did a Linux port in their offtime after it launches though.

No macos version is surprising though. Carmack has been a pretty big applehead at least in the past, and now that there's a steam client for macs I'd have thought a mac version would be pretty much a given thing.

Maybe they can outsource it to another dev, let them take care of the porting, like has happened with other titles in the past.

Carmack: Direct3D is now better than OpenGL
    OpenGL for Windows.

Cool, I don't even know what that means anymore. Will I need a DX10 card? Or will DX9 handle this game? No idea of what the most recent OGL equals in terms of DX.

It is equivalent to DX9, but they may follow Crytek's lead with a DX9 level render that doesn't officially support DX9 hardware. lulz
