Not really a blur at all. It seems to be some kind of combined TAA + EdgeAA, and it removes jaggies almost entirely.

I mean, it does look a bit blurry, but it's not too bad IMHO.

Regardless, MSAA with deferred rendering doesn't work with DX9 (AFAIK). You can turn off the PostAA by using 'r_PostMSAA=0', but that's probably not a great idea.

Nah brah I was still growing. Just kept the protein intake high and spiked myself with aminos (EAA) before bedtime. One week is alright.

About the edgeAA it's more than just blur. Cant remember the algorithm name now (type 3) but it is easily comparable to MLAA though it handles subpixels quite well to. My first thought was SSRA but it might be other inhouse method. Point is the added bluriness is very low, edge smoothing is excellent and subpixel smoothing good. Console edge AA method/quality though varies greatly vs PC one. Mind to that edge AA quality for PC changes depeding on graphic setting.

They call it 'Laplace edge anti-aliasing'. Can't find anything about it, though.

I can't believe that "review" was written by a grown man with a child. Using the term "sellout" should be reserved for fifteen year olds who are just starting to form their own opinions. Definitely the most polarizing game in quite a long time. It'll be interesting to see how it sells. I see opinions ranging from it being one of the best single-player shooters in ages, to being absolute worthless shit. Any vid I've seen of the PC version looks very very good.

There's a difference between tweaking cvars and being allowed to turn shadows and lighting down to medium or up to ultra high. To compare the two is intellectually dishonest.

Well, to be fair, Crysis 2 does feel a bit "consolish" (unlike, say, Far Cry 2). Nonetheless, it's a great game with great graphics.

I think calling it a port is disingenuous. All versions of the game were developed in parallel with custom rendering for each platform. You could say it was held back by the lowest common denominator (console), but it isn't a port. The entire purpose of Cryengine was to make a way to develop games simultaneously for all three platforms quickly and easily. Still, it is a far stretch from an ugly game, even if there are games you prefer visually.

Think it refers to (Hessman?) Laplace's edge detect algorithm then used and/or tweaked by Crytek. Google returns some results to algorithm(s).

It seems that some PC guys are offended by the game looking very similar across all platforms - as if they've expected to have an obviously superior looking C2...

Time to start a new thread for Crysis 2!

Somebody (/me looks at Neb or Laa-Yosh...) starts a new thread for the launch of the game. It's a big game, and this thread is from years ago.

We need a new thread with the basic (and latest) info in the opening post. I'm not locking this thread now, but I will after a while.

I've seen what looks like baked AO on some stuff, but nothing beyond that.

I mean where the surface reflects a reasonable aproximation of what is opposite it, as opposed to nonsensical reflections like these:

Sure, parallax mapping can look silly in various situations, but for subtle dept on things like brick walls and gravel roads it generally looks much better than the flat textured/slightly-bumpmaped surfaces Crysis 2 currently has.

Yeah, it's not a port in the technical sense, but it really feels like a port in a lot of ways. Particularly the texture resolutions, to the extent that I've yet to see the game go over 600mb of vram, at 1080p extreme. I'm guessing they were just being cheep keeping the game to one disk with that though, as surely they didn't create all those textures at such crappy resolutions. Homefront feels a lot more like a PC game that Crysis 2, though not nearly as polished.
