Can someone tell me why you can't customise the graphics settings in the PC demo beyond resolution, v-sync and the three presets?

ie. can't choose texture resolution, filtering, quality of effects etc?

Am I just not looking hard enough?

You just can't do it. The game has only 3 presets and that's all. We will have to live with it...for now.

And there is no uproar from PC gamers?

I mean it is Crysis, not The Sims 3 - is the full game also like this?

Sure there is, but complaining about it over and over and over makes for somewhat boring discussion. :p

Actually, I would be interested to see what happens when you toggle e_GI between 0 and 1.

Faffing with cvars in fucking 2011 is just THE PITS. Jesus, I moved past the text console in 1987, when I bought my Amiga. :D

Seriously, I can't believe there's not a GUI for this stuff. It's insulting to be limited to twiddling with cvars only in a flagship game like Crysis.

I've been trying to not go off on the game until I have had a chance to try it. Downloading now (/rude EA for no preload), so will have more impressions later.

But if those truly are the only adjustments you can make in game or pre-game, that's a huge step back. I absolutely hated Metro 2033 for lack of customizability, and it appears like this may be even more limited.

I'm just wondering if it's due to EA, all the bitching from forumites for Crysis 1 (oh noes, it looks absolutely crap and is a performance hog) when it launched, they just ran out of developement time and didn't have time to implement a simple customization menu in game, or they just went batsnot insane.

We may have to wait longer in the EU, but pre-load IS up and active right now in this territory, so I suggest people start up their steam clients and get the downloading going... It's 9+ gigs, so it'll take a while, gah!

People on GAF are saying that they have console and that there is config.cfg in game directory, but its maybe because steam patched it right away.

First thing i will do, is checking whats the difference in Gamer and Advanced in config file and make some hybrid settings ;p I dont need LOD, shadows, water tessellation and water reflections from Advanced but lens, particles and lighting in general is a must, especially in night scenes.

Well, haven't played it yet as I'm going in circles trying to get the pre-order LE crap in game. This is such a cluster fuck compared to W40K: DOW 2. In that all my pre-order stuff was automatically activated once I started the game in Steam even when they still used GFWL.

This is really freaking annoying. EA are freaking incompetant amateurs. Wish they'd give up on trying to have their own online store and just have proper Steam integration already. ARGH.

Also, HUGELY disappointed that there's no in game method of adjusting graphics components. Only High, Very High, and Extreme.

To be honest, as I'm becoming more and more of a console gamer, the few times I get back to a PC game I'm really happy to see simplicity. B3D and GAF and Crytek fan forums might think that this was a bad move, but I personally like it. The differences are barely noticeable to the average user anyway, even here a lot of people need pointers to see what's changed.

They could maybe even go with auto configuration based on a system scan too. It might just take a bit too much to build an intelligent solution, but it'd be damn cool... you set resolution and maybe preferred frame rate (30/60hz) and the game adjusts all the settings to get the proper results.

Has Crytek made any comment on the state of the DX11 patch? Seems they are almost pretending the PC version doesn't exist.

That would be great, but there could still be an "advanced settings" tab for those who like to tinker.

Well, I'd still like to be able to adjust things, but for now I'm just going to mess with single player. Evidently noone has been able to get Limited Edition pre-order stuff in game. Yah, good job EA. They just keep fucking this stuff up game after game after game...

Anyways, onto the game. Just started the campaign and I must say the lighting is fantastic. IMO, there's nothing else on the market even remotely as good. Lack of Dx11 is hugely disappointing, however. I'm almost considering holding off playing until it's available. But I think I'll at least play a bit to see how things are.

Seriously, what exactly do you expect from DX11? By all means the most likely scenario is a mild performance increase and maybe two meaningless effects seen in like a few scenes in the game.

Crysis 2 looks good enough already, I don't think there could be any significant upgrades left just by using a different API.

They did specifically mention that the GI runs faster in DX10/11. So it sucks that we get slower performance for no reason.

Played a bit of the game, post processing and lighting are far better than the first game...however it does look like geometry and interactivity is stuck in console land. While the cutscenes look fantastic and show lots of prebaked destrcution there is definitely not any realtime destruction to speak of. Even the awesome particle physics are nowhere to be seen. I used to love how the sparks would bounce around in the first iteration :(

There is some amount of limited destruction, for eg. the concrete covers will break procedurally. I'd rather show concerns over lack of interactivity with clutters, most of them are are unmovable bar a few specific objects.
Lack of Dx10/11 support doesn't bothers me cause at best I'll get marginally improved performance and as Laa-Yosh mentioned 2 meaningless effects that will do nothing but bring down the performance by a large percentage, however missing shader effects like POM are disappointing. These two make up for the only complains I have from the game as far as graphics go.
