Well I wouldn't mind if GSC would create an even more powerful engine and use it or just keep the one they have. I just hope they actually add some new better vegetation textures and work some on the visual layout to give depth and better visuals. I mean the latest Call of Prypiat screens looked worse than S.T.A.L.K.E.R SOC with mods IMO! :p

Such things as better foliage textures, soft DOF for horisont, tweaked fog values to give depth and simulate light scattering, bring out their top notch lighting engine by tweaking the zone settings, and more. Heck, I've seen the potential of the engine and lighting by people tweaking settings and making it look very realistic and top notch.

So really what would be my biggest joy if they used CE3 is that you would get an editor/'easy to find and tweak settings' to fast and easy add and tweak stuff. Crysis Wars style impacts and sparks where ~each spark has a lightsource...mmmm! :p

I think Stalker should be on its own engine but improved. Seriously , Stlker's Xray engine is the only thing other than Cryengine that makes me happy to have invested in a PC. It has its own look n feel and I love it. They just need to revive the tech they were working on in Stalker :SOC like the realtime radiosity and the DOF of CS and ll. They have a fine engine and with more work done on it, it will create another Moody Stalker !!

I am just wary that Stalker might lose its Mood and atmosphere if it is made Cryengine 3. It will look like another Crysis !

I think you underestimate how much of the style comes from the artists and art direction, rather than just the engine. I mean, below is a comparison of the original CryEngine1 showing Far Cry and a mod called Delta Sector.

IMO the Delta sector world fits closer to STALKER than Far Cry itself. Nothing "too happy looking" here.

@slapnutz - I am staggered at those screenshots.
@homerdog - I guess I was not the only who was not impressed with Fallout 3's graphics.
@m.fox - ME does NOT indeed look like UE3 games. And come to think of it other than the slight AA problem neither does the last remnant.

Don't get too excited, I downloaded the beta ages ago andthose shots definatly paint it in a very good light.

Maybe its come on a lot since I last tried it but there were quite a few rendering errors for me.

You got a point there, mate  ! I usually say that every game using UE3 looks almost the same. Mostly due to their specular model, which can be easily spotted in any game.

But ME proved me wrong ! I love its looks though I hate UE3 metallic look in every other game. Art and the will to make something unique can bend any technical limitations ! Yes, if done that way, STALKER can also look great in Cryengine 3.

But I still hope we have another engine actually making us feel good about aur PCs than Cryengine  !

Maybe coz it techinically didnt use the standard UE3 rendering engine.. but i get your point.

Well you cant get too picky about it. It was more of a proof of concept message that I was trying to convey across.

I mean if a small bunch of guys can do that with an old engine without any official dev support, imagine what GSC could do with a proper funding and CE3 license/support. Thats all.

Is that what causes all the models to have shiny silver edges - I hate that, along with the beige lighting all the levels seem to be bathed in.
