So, DX11 in day0 patch? :???: Is that means that reviewers [and benchmarkers] will not have access to dx11 before release day?

Sounds strange, is the translation correct and in context?

Otherwise this means early reviews might not have access to DX11 and demo wont have DX11.

Well, at least we now have confirmation of DX11 features and not just optimizations.

Actually demo could still have it - if demo is done after game has gone gold, it could have the day-0 patch applied to it straight away.

What is a day-0 patch? I'm guessing that it means the game has reached final status and the developers don't want to muck with that but they developed a patch to impart more features. Going further, that would imply it would take a lot of time to incorporate the patch's features into the game and do reliability testing.

But I'm having a hard time reconciling that guess with my thinking that adding on DX11 features in this way would be odd.

Might be one of those anti-piracy things. It won't stop the game being pirated, but the pirates can't get the zero-day patch before the launch date.

Either that or we're going to see patch after patch as development continues even after the launch date because the game won't actually be finished.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I have no problem with that if it's implemented well.

So the DX9 version doesn't have POM? Weird considering how prevalent and excellent it's implementation was in Crysis. Maybe their "new" POM uses DX11 only features for performance benefits and combination with AF?

Is there no DX10 mode? Seems pretty stupid considering how much DX10 hardware there must be out there compared with DX11 and especially DX9.

DX10 can emulate many/all? of the features of DX11 albeit much slower, so why bother with that specific mode?

You dont need DX10 if you have DX11. DX10 HW is compatible with DX11. So if you got DX10 HW you run in DX11 mode and get better perfomance than if the redundant DX10 API would have been included (ofcourse not cappable of all true DX11 HW can and doesn't get all pefomance benfits at max).

DX10 cards should be able to run the DX11 path minus some DX11 specific features.

Oh Neb beat me to it :)

It depends, if the Gold Master has been sent to duplication 4 weeks ahead of release then even if a patch were to come out 3.5 weeks before release, then it would still be a Day 1 patch. But in a case like that, the reviewers would likely have access to it as they could presumably receive a burnt, as opposed to pressed, copy of the game direct from the developer/publisher.

Looks like it will be time to start overclocking my i7 930. I really wish I could get my hands on a couple of those 570 video cards.

I believe Dirt 2 and Lost Planet 2 locked DX10/10.1 hardware to DX9

Civ5 allows you to start the DX11 exe and play in 10/10.1 though

AFAIK it's not like it would be automatic or any such, but just the same as it was before DX10 - DX8 could use DX9 runtime but it wasn't (AFAIK anyway) just a case of running the same code and then lacking some effects the hardware couldn't handle

Here's the link to the demo.
    http://static.cdn.ea.com/crytek/u/f/crysis2/Crysis_2_Multiplayer_Demo.exe

Downloading at 5MB/ sec ...should be done in 4-5 mins

EDIT: First thing first, V. High is still unavailable and the shader settings still seem to be locked at medium (lacks shaders like POM), also it looks exactly like the 360 demo (right down to the textures, although minus the terrible LOD) bar the fact that I can now run it at 1080p and get pretty much constant 60FPS with almost no dips.

    Some screenshots that I took

Any ideas about what PC configuration can run Crysis 2 better than the console versions? Does it matter whether you're using Windows XP and hence DX9?

    So it's DX9 only?
