Worldwide inflation coupled with the need to keep retailers happy and still make some money to recoup the cost of developement.

If we didn't need retail distribution the PC software industry could probably go another 10-20 years without a price increase. But publishers still have to keep retailers happy so that's just how it is.

Or, you could ask Crytek to keep DX9 level graphics and skip multicore game developement in order to keep developement costs down. :) AAA level graphics aren't cheap.

Yeah, I've stopped watching any video that isn't officially released by Crytek. So haven't been doing any searches for it either thankfully...

Even at $50, there is more profit to be had with a PC game than a $60 console game with no royalty fee to be given to anyone. Honestly I don't mind paying $60, because I know goes back to the developers which in the end helps to continue to fuel higher level PC gaming development. It surprises me that publishers are not doing more to push the PC versions of games, because there is more money to be made with each one sold. But in the end, with Gamestop being so "up there" of course they want you to buy the 360 and PS3 versions so you can sell/trade them back.

Yeah, retail is a bitch that holds down many business models. I read on neogaf that when Sony published Warhawk on PSN for the same price as retail, but one or two days earlier, gamestop pull off all copies from stores and hold them in warehouse for a month! With recent example of Mass Effect 2 on PSN being more expensive than in retail i can believe that.

I've seen no one being able to run DX10 nor DX11. And just choosing render API in config wont do anything ingame butcrash or not render anything going by what all that tried have said. He just chosen via console prompt the higher shading/rendering modes but it wont change as it should and neither can you change API mode during runtime.

Looks really nice but this aint very high at all nor DX11 and why he doesn't show debuginfo screen. Looks same as "high"/DX9 footage.

Well I know you can't switch APIs through the console, which is what he claims to have done. Still very nice looking.

Crytek is surely and rightfully enraged by this leak, but it has done nothing but get me more excited about the impending release.

Will this really not be released on Steam? If not I'll buy a boxed copy, so EA and unfortunately Crytek will be making less money from my purchase.

It's been a long time since I bought a boxed PC game. Actually the last one was Mass Effect, and before that Crysis. The guys working at Gamestop didn't even know ME was being released on PC on its release day lol.

Not being available on Steam is kind of a deal breaker for me. I don't want boxed games anymore. And I don't want any crappy digital platform from EA.

Is it just me, or does the vegetation seem less advanced? In Crysis and Warhead, there seemed be many more independent pieces to the tree construction to give it a much more realistic feel and look as it was animated to look like it was being blown by the wind. Same with the grass. I bet the water is not going to be interactive either.......

Come on Crytek, push our quad-cores to the limit!

Water is interactive and You really need to play vanilla Crysis, because Crysis 2 vegetation is 'ripped off' sometimes directly from Crysis 1.

I just pre-ordered it after reading all the positive comments here. I'm not going to look at any video's want to have that "Unreal coming out of the crashed spaceship at the start and seeing the sky moving" moment again. Well, as near as possible.

Intel 3.6Ghz Wolfdale dual core and 5850 should be just enough I think for pretty good resolution and shaders, AA etc.

Hmm, OK. A quick look at the cvars shows that CryEngine 3 is using AMSAA (amortized MSAA). The default value is r_PostMSAA=1, which is equivalent to 2xAA, but if you get 60fps or over you can set it to r_PostMSAA=2, which is a 4xAA equivalent (it flickers in 30fps) . There's very slight blurring, but it looks quite a bit better than any kind of edge/image AA, especially at the subpixel level.

Also, they're using a new technique for SSAO (not the one mentioned in their older CryEngine 3 papers). They're calling it 'Volumetric Obscurance technique with jittering and temporal accumulation' (r_SSAO=4).

Nope as they're single cover 'core' only blocks.

Never been a big fan of full cover blocks as you can't re-use them, My single cover blocks fit every GPU on the market so no matter what I change my graphics cards too I know I can water cool them :)

Swifty makes those VRAM/VRM heat sinks and you could put a couple of those skinny Scythe fan holders in...
