I was surprisingly close to downloading it, but decided not to. A must buy in any case, but I chose to wait to get the full and proper experience from the get go.

I was tempted to despite already ordering game. Not to play but for tweaking and exploring tech and perfomance.

Btw read this in another forum.

Well first of all this is DX9, beta leak so it might be different but Warhead also inactivated the cvar. No bendable material is a shame though if true (except vegetation) but I guess they save polys there but not like it would mather on PC though.

Being able to do what you want when you want in a FPS makes it much more connected to me. You are not fighting the pad, jigging buttons to get the crosshairs where you want them - you just move to that spot.

The connected-ness of mouse movement is infinitely superior to joysticks or buttons on a pad.

There was a good post a few weeks back from Tycho at Penny Arcade on the control differenced made from a console to a PC game.

So basically there are a ton of compromises made in the mechanics of aiming to make a pad workable, and using a mouse means games have to be de-nerfed to stop faster, more accurate mouse players from walking all over the game. This may go a long way to explain why we never see PC players against console players in the same game.

You talk about the mouse control feeling unnatural. I have two experiments for you:
    1) "Draw" a nice round eight (8) with the crosshairs using a game controller. Then re-evaluate how natural this feels.
    2) Stand up right now (in real life), get into a "gun wielding stance" and do a 180 degree turn as quickly as you can. Then re-evaluate how insanely fast you can react in real life versus how slow you are on a controller.

I'll guess I'll post a pic (breaking my own promsie not to post links) I saw at another forum. To good to be put aside. For anyone worried about freedom both vertically and horisontally. This with shaders on medium... amazing.

Nah I'll keep my promise, suck on it.

The video with Crysis 2 being played on a 8600GT made me a bit relieved...Hopefully I don't have to go down too much from 1080p

But video is really badly compressed and only 480p aswell as at unknown settings. It is to compressed to make out anything that is shown in debuginfo. Still looks good.

Funny, this is exactly the reason why I switched from playing with inverted Y axis with a mouse to a normal Y axis. Because I also found out that it felt unnatural to make shapes with an inverted axis. The inverted Y axis was a leftover from playing flight sims many years ago like TIE Figher. ;)

Something about the New York depicted by Crytek just doesn't feel right, everything I've seen of the city seems so incredibly artificial.

I'm just not sure why that is. Maybe the dimensions and placement of things, it may have to do with the weird smoggy lighting, I don't know.

Yea but Im thinking more about the movement, hit reaction, map design is also messed up IMO with that big contrast between light and dark...it also looks somewhat chunky idk.

    [strike]Shiiieeeet I edit it out, do it to[/strike] Thanks a lot! :)

Anyway go to console thread and watch Ruskies video links to get a hold of levelsize and vertical/horisontal gameplay. I am pleased with it.

About the city I find it very realsitic looking but in some parts the skyline, perhaps colors and also how fog is applied seems a bit off viewing it from a realistic perspective. But with beta leak only going up to high settings with critical shader settings on medium and DX9 this will impact effects and visuals. It's like Crysis where lower settings just aint enough to do a proper approach to realistic and highly detailed visuals.

Didn't Rev piss off the B3D admins way back for misusing the forum somehow? I'm pretty sure that's why he went away.

So who's with me in thinking that there won't be a detail preset that implodes a 6970 or GTX 580 this time around? ;) Maybe they'll shoot far lower than that just to be safe.

Keep the tards at bay by protecting them from themselves and thus inhibiting conniption fits.

I used the quatation marks to mean something different than the actual connection, which of course is really good with mouse, I mean with mouse it's more accurate, but to me it still feels more artificial. Hard to explain :)

Yeah that's good info, I had read that when it was first posted. I do realise the great accuracy gap between the two methods and that post clearly shows that it needs to be taken in to account when making a game.

Heh maybe I need to come up with a car analogy to better show what I mean :)

I'm not going to do a fast 180 here, I'll prolly hurt myself :) but I can imagine that it would be quite like you say.
You can then try to press W with various levels of force and see how the character moves in a game and then try to walk different speeds IRL :)

But yeah the accuracy benefit wasn't lost on me before either. I quess though that I have more issues with the kb as a gaming interface than with the mouse, maybe if I could have something like the Playstation nav controller on left hand, mouse on the right and voice commands, I'd be happy :)

Might aswell as it seems there is no policy against it here, spoiler mark it though. Also game has low, the debuginfo states low, med and high spec for respective settings.
