OS-Level Modular Subtitle/Localization Support

WIth only Wii U that are region locked, both X1 and PS4 are not region locked, it gives more opportunity for gamers to import game. With digital downloads, importing game become much much easier.

But language still become barrier, and Fans cant do unofficial translation because both consoles have not been hacked (its not released yet..)

From MS/Sony perspective, does they have any incentive to make OS-Level Modular Subtitle/Localization Support ?

Maybe runs them like Steam with Steam Workshop.
Modders upload their works, and gamers can download it from "MS/Sony Workshop".

If the fans translation are good enough, allow the publishers to buy it and use it in their official version.


MS/Sony keep pushing the social aspect. And with Kodu ehm... SPARKS from MS and LBP from sony, it seems they already know the benefit of user generated contents.

Maybe not even have to buy it, if anyone uploaded a translation on there, they agree it would become a property of that company. Anyway, that's the business side of things.

Is there a localization engine that has support for language rules? I think text translation is quite easy but when there's dynamic text, different languages have all sorts of complicated rules to accommodate. It's easier for languages with similar origins, but some languages are too different to be handled with the same set of rules. And due to those differences, there's no way to translate correctly until you clearly see the context of the original text.

So I'm wondering if there's a standard localization engine that games devs are using.

even a limited subtitle support will be good enough.
Maybe only for cutscene and NPC dialogue text.

for UI, people can learn their way :p
