Opteron 2.0GHz + Dx9 Benchmarks

they're hardly DX9 benchmarks. none of those games use any real DX9 effects, maybe just a single-pass instead of 2-pass for an effect. they are still DX7 mostly with some DX8 thrown in.

that aside, the numbers are still quite impressive.....

Platform memory performance--latency in particular, but bandwidth as well--is very important to performance on many 3d engines, apparently GunMetal in particular. If these numbers hold up, Opteron/A64 FX (although not the A64 with the standard 64-bit wide memory bus) looks to be an absolute killer gaming platform! (In fact I wonder why people aren't building top-end consumer boxes with the Opteron+nForce3 platform already.)

(Do note, however, that the A64 that will get the 3200+ rating is the narrow memory version, which won't perform like what was tested here. The wide memory A64s are apparently getting "FX 15x" model numbers. Assuming AMD will eventually drive that marketing convention into the mainstream market, that will be a very good thing as it will allow them to ditch the increasingly irrelevant Performance Rating scheme.)
