WORLD EXCLUSIVE: NEW XBOX REVEALED!

Microsoft poised to bring green Xbox to retail: get in here right now!

17:52 We can exclusively reveal that Microsoft is to bring a brand new, green version of its Xbox hardware to market.
The unit will be a retail version of the translucent green debug hardware that specialist press, developers and publishers already have access to, but which has hitherto been denied to Joe Public.

The green console, which will also release with a special green version of Controller S, will be a welcome addition to the Xbox family.

The move is yet another step forward in Microsoft's tireless marketing push that has seen Xbox overtake and pull clear of GameCube in the UK in recent weeks.

For the week ending November 10, Xbox enjoyed a 46 percent rise in sales, shifting 15,102 units, compared with 6,839 GameCubes over the same period.

The new unit should only serve to bolster this trend, an initiative that has also proved popular with Nintendo's console, which has been released in a number of different colours. The Xbox redesign is purely cosmetic, with internal specs remaining the same as current retail units.

It's currently unclear when Microsoft plans to release the new hardware: the first quarter of 2003 is looking likely, although speculation regarding a pre-Christmas launch is growing.

When contacted, a spokesperson for Microsoft refused to comment on the matter, but highly placed retail sources have confirmed to us that the unit is ready to go.

The world is turning green. The Grinch must be thrilled. Remember where you heard it first.

I realise I'm not the most non-biased person out there - but what are they thinking? This is ugly, like the if it was a girl I'd rather die a virgin ugly. Why can't they just make the whole thing Black or Midnight Gray or something?

Already have one, thanks. it'll probably be some limited time offer or something, just like the clear case they used during the japanese launch.

You got one already Quincy?

It might be ugly, but damned if I don't want it for the novelty factor. I wish they were giving us plain clear ones though.

Am I the only one that thinks it looks cool? :(

I think it does too, makes me think of the green goblin in the spiderman movie..

I just used an S-controller for the first time today, and I applaud MS for fixing my biggest complaint, I like the feel of it a lot more.

Well, sorta. I have a debug kit and it looks identicle to that. infact, i think that all they did was take a picture of a debug kit and make up this story. they are coverig the debug kit text no the xbox with the controller.

Indeed... That's what I thought, of course they may just be using the debug box cases as a limited edition model.

Hell when Sony introduced the dual shock controllers, they debuted in blue with a special blue PSX (which just looked like a debug unit).

Actually, I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't done this already. The LE skeleton model was in much higher demand in Japan, and the translucent blue PS2s sparked a pretty big sales jump when they were released...

Yes, as seen from a Hong Kong X-BOX press meeting, that one is a debug kit.

that is why in the CVG picture, the pad is so close to the console, just to hide the "debug kit" logo.

I see the Xbox has increased its sales yet again, from around 10K a week to 15K a week. It'll be interesting to see whether that lead over the Gamecube will last or whether it's just a temporary blip. Christmas sales should be ramping up now so the next month or so will be important to both Microsoft and Nintendo.

Looks like crap, then again Xbox design isnt really eyecatching in the first place.

Well, sure.

If it is not DOA3, I would never let it stay in my room. X-BOX is simply ugly.

They should learn from Sony, Nintendo or Sega than came up with something as ugly (for sure, to my eyes) as it is.
