General trend in the reviews, clearly priced out of it's league or the performance could have been better.

GTX 280 beats the GX2 in Crysis here: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2320126,00.asp
    But loses here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3334&p=11

Anandtech runs with a slightly faster CPU (clock-wise), more memory and an nvidia based mobo, while extremetech runs on an Intel-based mobo.

Komplett.no has it for around 4700 NOK which is about $910 USD but, which surprised me since I thought it would cost around 5500 NOK or more.

For comparison, the cheapest GX2 at komplett.no is about 3400 NOK which is ca. $660 USD.

I am not willing to live with the hassles of multi-GPU so if there hasn't been a GT200b released before Nehalem gets out, I think I will buy a GTX 280 and pair it with a quad core/octa thread Nehalem.

On the one hand, it's something of a relief that 20 months after the release of G80 we've finally got a decisively faster gpu to wear the single-gpu crown. So yay that.

Otoh, it's not faster than GX2 in most scenarios, and costs more.

I suppose there may be some 8800GTX owners who hate multi-gpu enough to consider GTX 280 a going proposition. This 8800GTX owner found himself thinking this morning that he didn't see anything that made him want to upgrade at these prices, and looking forward to the inevitable shrink/refresh this fall as a much more likely opportunity to make a change.

Unless of course the red team throws down some serious sweetness, but that's yet to be determined.

Some of the results some websites are getting are really surprising. The results are all over the place.

Yes, I agree, and what's with the Techreport using different drivers for GTX280 and GTX260? ForceWare 177.26 vs. ForceWare 177.34 respectively.

I wonder if its where they are testing Crysis? In my experience Crysis is a terrible multi GPU scaler. And I use multi GPU all the time. I have never witnessed the 9800GX2 doing very well @ High and Very settings with 190xx and better due to its limited framebuffer....

    http://www.rage3d.com/previews/video/nvg2xx/

In my tests I found the 9800GX2 to do pretty horrid in Crysis. The game never scaled well beyond 2 GPUs for me.

Yes Crysis is in there. :) Maybe its my crack whore addiction to using AA. And as an SLI user I think SLI users deserve nothing less than high quality. But Crysis has never done well for me at 1920x1080 with 2xAA and higher.

Does anyone know what timedemo Anandtech uses? Its just so hard for me to believe the 9800GX2 doing so well in Crysis. Specially with AA enabled. All my experiences with the 9800GX2 have shown it to be memory limited and SLI scaling limited in that game.
