I wonder if RSX will inherit the "more capable" ROPs of G71, even if it has less of them, overall.

Well I am supprised as Anand has a senseable conclusion...

And what I ment by that as I saw some reviews this AM not even acknowledge that at the high end while perfromance maybe about equal, ATI seems to have the edge in IQ. And to mean it seems like if your were gonna to spend that kind of Money IQ is probably worth something to you.

Best part is us consumers win as there are some really nice cards out there now!

Good stuff. The lower power consumption of the G71 will make the small form factor owners happy that's for sure. Although I don't play any games using HDR, I still wish Nvidia would have supported that with AA. Hardocp's FEAR performance figures surprised me. I thought the x1900s owned that benchmark for sure. Any ideas?

The X1900 is running in its High Quality filtering mode in that benchmark over the 7900 GTX, which might go some way to explaining the performance figures shown there.

I didn't find much difference in perf with HQ AF on or off in FEAR on the X1900 XTX, it's a feature you can pretty much leave enabled, takes little perf hit.

True, it is pretty small on X1900 boards, especially compared to the hit seen on R520 with it turned on.

I don't get it ... where does the G71 get it's extra Texture and Pixel fillrate. Is that all from the core and memory clock speeds? since I don't see any other differences

    XFX 7900GTX, 7900GT, 7600GT Reviewed

We didn't have a lot of time to pull this review off, but we have benchmarked the XXX versions of the XFX 7900GTX, 7900GT, and 7600GT. I don't believe anyone else has tested cards clocked this fast, and I believe XFX has the highest clock of any card announced. Correct me if I am wrong. In fact we have 33 of these new cards total. If you want a big pic of that let me know. :)

At this time of year with Vista(and D3D10) being really close .. is it worth it to buy a card like this or wait for Vista and the G80/R600?

That's the eternal question, is it not? There's always something more exciting coming round the corner, you could wait forever.

Vista is what ... maybe six to nine months away in reality? And D3D10 games ... how much longer than that?

What is it about Vista that makes it worth waiting for? More desktop eye-candy?

Well it appears ati's 3:1 ratio is working out in the shader intensive games.
But nvidia better bang for the buck.. 7900gt

This(below) just doesn't sound right. You might have to fix it.

Well i'm actually waiting for the new AMD DDR2 CPU's/Mobo's which only come out by July(since I still have a X3200+ Barton with AGP mobo) .. and a PCI-e slot GPU will be on the menu .. so waiting just 3-4 months for Vista and D3D10 games won't be much longer. And that's my dilemma.

The X1900XTX or 7900GTX will also have dropped in price which would be nice .. but with G80/R600 lurking .. it could be a waste of money by the end of the year when Crysis and other games hit the market.

The schedule of the R600s will be determined by if ATI allows AIBs to overclock again in the next few weeks. If they dont then i would say there isnt much time left to wait. >6 months. Simple reason being they dont want to create internal competition or waste money binning chips. We may see them attack the low and mid range with a bit of a vengeance again like they did with the r42x/480 cores.

    (conroe looks sexier then am2!)
