Sorry I didn't mean whatever they could find for monitor due to scarcity, I meant whatever they could find for cheap.

Yeah i got that. But it seems like a strange scenario, if you look at Steams hardware survey, only 2% game at 4K resolution. If someone buys a 4K monitor because they dont understand technology, then they most likely dont know about 3070 price/perf ratio. They would probably buy whatever cheap gpu is available in the store

Think I'm going to order a RTX3070 FE as they are £469 on Nvidia UK site. The RX6800 in the end is more expensive and I will not buy until I see proper reviews and RT performance or simply believe in promises of DLSS competitor. I'm bringing my GTX1060 to my brother next week so I'll need a replacement fast. The 8GB VRAM are annoying but I don't need to run 4K with all bells and whistles anyway.

3070's are sold out everywhere in 10 minutes. I don't remember any launch this bad although I usually don't try to buy anything at launch so maybe I just didn't notice.

You have a lot of additional factors contributing to issues this cycle -

    - larger value uplift vs last cycle

    - Q4 demand (heaviest sale season)

    - Covid demand

    - Covid supply chain issues

    - Trade conflict supply chain issues

    - Despite the overall economic issue I wouldn't be surprised for the demographics buying primarily in this segment they are actually better off in terms of disposable income

    - changing PC gaming demographics/market (it's a much more mainstream and primary hobby compared to the past)

    - larger global market

    - overall changing consumer patterns (more impatient, front loaded)

    - social media prevalence

    - consumer awareness and tool change

Any takers how long it will take for amd to sell out their new gpu's? I bet they will be gone real fast also. Just the same as xbox and ps5 too. There is a ton of demand at the moment.

Q3 and especially Q4 earnings reports will tell a lot about volume. If volume is low that will show up in revenue.

Really bad in the UK. Tried right at 1pm. Website constantly failing. Got to the point of trying to pay with PayPal and then it just crashed. Next refresh my basket was empty and it was out of stock. I might just end up getting a RX6800 out of spite.

Some of these cards are measuring at only 28db over at TPU! That's insane levels of quiet!

Should mean the AIB RX 6000 cards are about the same.

It'll be nice if it is. The FE of the 3080 measures at 36db according to TPU but the 3070 is only 30db so significantly quieter. AMD claim the 6800XT is 37db I believe but obviously the testing procedure may be different. I eagerly await TPU's testing for an Apples to Apples comparison. That said, anything below about 34db should be pretty quiet already, and it's very nice to see that AMD have also implemented fan shut down at idle.

For the two models being referenced the heatsinsks are nearly the same between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 version, which is why they much more easily handle the latter at about 100w less.

Wasn't that what was causing the crashes?

Not sure since the bios is still beta. I don't know if other AIB's are doing the same.

Edit: Just tried to get on their forum. Amazing that new product introductions can still cause this type of havoc.

Do you mean what they addressed with the driver update? I think the fix was just to smooth out boost peaks by lowering the top boost by one bin. Don't think it changed anything directly regarding power limits.

Yeah, gaming ampere has quality cooling even in FE models, kudos to nvidia for that. AMD with their BBA design i don´t think they will match, but just coming close would be fine considering old BBA cooling record. It will be interesting to see AIBs cause even if RX 6000 requieres a bit less power in general, 7nM is not always easy cooled. 3070 is the most efficient gaming ampere and 8GB helps in that regard too.

Anyway, IMO OC vs OC and power limit to the max, 2080 Ti is faster than 3070 and thats why AIBs graphs like leaked Zotacs states so, cause don´t forget Nvidia launched gaming ampere in general close to the limit, and thats why they had even crashes neede to be fixed by new drivers. If gaming ampere has just 5% OC headroom fopr performance, Turing had at least 10-15%.

Wonder when I can buy one without massive markup. Guess I can always wait another generation and get a 4070 since I really want a 3080 anyway.
