I am amazed at the way NVIDIA improved it's Pascal performance in Wolfenstien 2:

So to no surprise, the lack of any real implementations for RTX features at release paints them in poor light compared to Pascal for price/perf. DLSS looks to be the potential game changer to distinguish the Turing series, at least for regular gaming.

Too bad they didn't just "replace" de 1080 and 1080ti with 2080 and 2080ti.

It's impressive, like any new "generation" by nVidia, but the prices... Thx AMD I guess... Competition can't come soon enough.

RTX 2080 Ti with OC is 28-58 % faster than an OC GTX 1080Ti (UHD): https://www.computerbase.de/2018-09...3/#diagramm-assassins-creed-origins-3840-2160

In Wildlands the RTX 2080Ti is 28 % faster while it is 58 % faster in SW Battlefront 2.

Cant wait for Intel gaming GPUs.

The lack of competition is certainly a factor but it's also due to the huge die sizes to incorporate the RTX hardware features (really don't know how much of a factor this is) and the fact that Pascal is not EOL with a large inventory still out there. They won't price themselves out of the market. Pricing RTX as such allows the previous generation to maintain their place.

They're likely supply constrained for Turing anyway and whether gamers buy Pascal or Turing, they're still maintaining their margins. The 2070 will be in a weird place next month with performance and price between 1080 and 1080ti, but again they don't need to sell a ton of them. Gradually sell off excess Pascal over the next 6 months, release 2050/2060 around March/April and by that time there will be some RTX titles actually doing something with the additional hardware.

They can't lose.

Oh, they benchmarked the Star Wars Demo. This doesnt look so bad after all.
Even GTX 1080 can run this raytracing demo, wonder how they managed that and if the GTX uses TXAA or DLSS ( computing neural networks is not exclusive to RTX)

I can't help but give nvidia a (tiny little) bit of comprehension here.
Unlike the Pascal line, these are huge chips that cost a lot of money and probably don't have the greatest yields. Even the smallest TU106 from the 2070 is almost as big as the GP102 from the 1080 Ti / Titan Xp.
Of course nvidia is still making increasingly larger profits out of each chip, but I don't think it's as much as people are making it to be simply by looking at the SKU names.

As I mentioned before, I do think the GDDR5X products will cease production in the short term because GDDR6 will probably be a lot cheaper (the 3 major RAM makers will produce it for many products).
This means the 2070 and 2080 will replace the 1080 and 1080 Ti, respectively. They'll probably keep the 1070 Ti and below in production until the 7nm chips arrive, but the G5X products will stop production well before that.

I know LTT isn't the source of choice for tech savvy people in general, but their review'ish video does raise an interesting question.
A studio working on a title supporting both RTX and DLSS promised them to demo them for Linus, but then suddenly without any explanations told them they can't do it.
Sounds pretty clear that Jensen said you can't do that, but why? Too low RT-performance which they hope to solve before Windows 10 (1809) ships?

Wow, didn’t realize hardware.fr stopped publishing reviews. That’s a pity.

Yeah very sad. It was one of the few sites that still did interesting theoretical performance tests - geometry, texture, pixel throughout for different data types etc.

Fingers crossed that AT does something more interesting than the same game benchmarks every other site is doing. Hopefully Nate’s public shaming has the intended effect :)
