    NVIDIA Showcases New OpenMAX IL Open Standard For Streaming Media Portability
    Flexible streaming media pipeline configured using new OpenMAX IL open standard and fully accelerated on NVIDIA® GoForce® 3D handheld GPU

    CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW (CES)—LAS VEGAS, NV—JANUARY 4, 2006—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), the worldwide leader in programmable graphics processor technologies, together with The Khronos™ Group are set to hold the industry’s first demonstration of the new OpenMAX IL 1.0 (Integration Layer standard), at CES in Las Vegas. The standard, which has been announced today at CES, defines media component interfaces to enable the rapid integration of accelerated codecs into streaming media frameworks on embedded devices. The demonstrations will take place at the Lunch at Piero’s press event on Thursday, January 5 and Friday, January 6 at 12pm.

    The demonstrations will show how a prototype OpenMAX IL implementation executing on an NVIDIA GoForce 3D handheld graphics processing unit (GPU), can create a flexible, accelerated streaming media pipeline to input, decode, and display a MPEG-4 video stream, with fully synchronised audio at full frame rate. Through using OpenMAX IL, different codecs may be easily inserted into the pipeline, or the configuration of the processing pipeline can be easily changed with full media component and codec interoperability.

    The OpenMAXâ„¢ IL 1.0 (Integration Layer) specification defines media component interfaces to enable the rapid integration of accelerated codecs into streaming media frameworks on embedded devices. OpenMAX IL is the first of three layers of the overall OpenMAX standard. The standard will provide comprehensive streaming media codec and application portability by enabling accelerated multimedia components to be developed, integrated, and programmed across multiple operating systems and silicon platforms.
