$200 between the GT and the GTX seems like an awfully big gap...

450-500 MHz on the GT and 650-700 MHz on the GTX are also big gaps.

    XFX 7900 gt extreme 256mb 349.99
    XFX 7900 gt 256mb 349.99

Strikes me as odd straight away. Thery need to get to around $299 assuming those slowish clocks that have been circulating and assuming still 5 quads.

Talking about die size have you seen the RD580 chip .. that's a lovely little chip. The one problem about reduced die sizes of course is not only the increased energy per area but also the fact that it puts more stringent limitations on the heatsinks. I doubt the current ways of fixing heatsinks to cores will be good enough and that something along the lines of cpu heatsink sockets will be introduced. Either that or going for a big integrated spreader on the die by the IHV.

Two or 4 3cent springs with wobbly non-flat $1 tinfoil heatsinks will be a thing of the past I am sure.

There goes price-competitivity...darn, at least it`ll help bring prices down, I hope.

I think both IHVs have figured out that people will pay those prices for those cards, so they're going to charge them. Performance will go up but prices will remain the same (like PCs, which have cost £1000 for over a decade now, because that's what people will pay).

At least I was right on $349 GT pricing , sounds as if NV tries making bargain between $299 and $399.

If those are 7900GT SLI scores, I kinda expected more. 1.8GHz for an Athlon64 also influences these scores imo.

In my opinion, 3dmark 05 and 06 were run on a single 7900 GT.

You don't place the nVidia control panel with the SLI tab showing that SLI is enabled if you have a single 7900GT in your rig ;)

3d 05 and 06 could'nt be run on 7900 GT SLI., unless there is a driver bug with 7900 GT SLI.

True. But those scores are pathetic for a dual-GPU setup of that size.

It's rumoured that there is a driver bug for 05 and 06 so Sli is single in fact. Only the 03 score is SLi

I know that nvidia was sending out a new driver revision yesterday so maybe the facts are related ?

Even so, and checking scores against other people with 7800GT Sli and low specced A64 cpu the scores are not very impressive.

At the moment I am underwhelmed by the price and the speed and can only hope that the testing scores improve and the prices go down.

It's highly doubtful that 7900GT SLI would score only slightly better in 3DMark than a single 7800GT. There's definitely something wonky about those results (05/06).

I am thinking that if G71 is what supposted to be a die shink of G70, so the 7900GT and GTX would have no problem with any drivers that have no problem with 7800GT and GTX :?:

If so, there would appear something those make different of the two (7800 and 7900) that can cause problem in running SLi.

Not getting the relevance to what you quoted. . .

But anywho, I did an estimated calc upstream that does it have it smaller than R430. . . still haven't seen a die shot in public to confirm it tho!

Maybe we are reading too much into it.

Maybe the benches are fake, maybe he just screwed the pouch ( pooch ?! ) and they were not enabled for SLi for 05/06 and he was not knowledgable to spot it ?
