R180 will probably be released with GT206 in October.

    Does Bigtabs win ;)

[NVISION 08] The NVIDIA DX10 stereo driver was demonstrated on the nvision show floor along with the accompanying shutter glasses. We've also learned that NVIDIA will create a product under their brand for this accessory. Although it is not yet official, the glasses are expected to be available at the end of the year. On the photos you can see a USB port used to recharge the battery. An infra-red synchronization device will connect to the computer via USB (to sync the glasses with the left & right images). I've seen cool demos over the years but the new “Age of Empires” is my favorite.

This day is the Big Bang Day. And it started with this news:
Nvidia 180 driver speeds up GTX 260, 216
Repeat: Call of Duty 5, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Left for Dead and Dead Space
    Bjorn3D:
    Nvidia GTX-260 Core 216 VS ATI 4870 1GB 5 Game Shootout
    Five games:
    HD4870 1 GB vs. GTX260-216?
    Hm, a coincidence?

    Computerbase.de:
    HD4870 1 GB vs. GTX260-216?

    Strange...

    German HWL:
Artikel: ATI Radeon HD 4870 vs. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 im Winter-Shootout
    Their test parcours: http://www.hardwareluxx.de/cms/artikel.php?action=show&id=657&seite=5
    COD5? Dead Space? Fallout 3? Far Cry 2? Left4Dead? HD4870 1 GB vs. GTX260-216?

    Guru3D: Top 10 games Radeon 4870 1 GB & GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 test
    No L4D, but again HD4870 1 GB vs. GTX260-216?
So, what happened? It's simply: Nvidia did a good job.

To dictate the testing of the newest top-games and the most usual setting is so mean.

If you would look in the reviews, you would see that there are very different results, which shows that the sites use different benchmarking scenarios.

What I find even more remarkable is that they didn't include Crysis/Warhead in the benchmarks. Seems like the obvious choice if you want to test graphics performance.

Because nVidia get big enough gains in them as they did in the other 5 games?

It was the part of the agreement between NV and reviewers to use these 5 games only.

Just took a look at bjorn3d.coms review. The conclusion reads like an advertisement
The reviewer actually pretends to be surprised that nVidia won in the 5 titles nVidia dictated he had to test?

Of course nVidia selected the 5 games that would show the largest advantage, but despite this, in some of the test they only win by a few fps.

But at least bjorn3d.com compensated by using lots of charts that didn't start at 0...

Just tested out Crysis warhead, I'm able to use AA now at 1680, so there is a performance increase in crysis warhead too.

I'll have to try these at home on my 8800GTS320. I wonder if it makes a difference on such an old card.

Well, the architecture has been updated twice since. Mine is almost 2 years old I guess. It's not unusual for manufacturers to stop caring about such products and concentrate on improving their newer products only.

Yeah I was wondering about that for my vid cards as well. I guess playing Bioshock with fraps enabled should give some idea...

So is the way reviews work now? Companies dictating the review process? Is it really a shocker what the outcome of such reviews is? Just look at the logo of the company sponsoring such a review and you'll know the results without wasting your time looking at charts.

Nice to see the sites roll over and take it.

I hear what your saying. By enthusiast standards its an old and fairly low end GPU (since all we care about is the latest and greatest).

But in real terms, its still an insanely powerful GPU. It puts both next gen consoles to shame, it can run any game out there with ease as long as you keep the settings sensible and its more powerful than practially any laptop GPU you can get regardless of price (and most mainstream buyers are more interested in laptops these days).

Don't get me wrong though, right now, I would like a 260 or 4870 in that price range.... and i'm already looking forward to the next few months.... hopefully we will see very near GTX 280 performance in the $300 range, where 1 year ago we would have got 8800GT performance!

Too bad it's nonsense. According to Computerbase.de, Nvidia provided the drivers and the games but did not interfere with the benchmarking process in any way. No quality settings were mandated.
