I had no idea the GBA was capable of those kinds of numbers.
Nintendo should just skip a cycle (or half-cycle) of the main consoles and focus their attention on the handheld side.

Not if you have such a thing as the GBA (and maybe the DS) as leverage. It likely brought Square back to the GC, let's see what else it can do :D

Why is it that this is the first time in 7 or 8 months that we've seen sales numbers posted here?

It is? I thought we saw one a couple of months ago.

Sales don't receive a lot of discussion here, but the numbers have been available elsewhere on a consistent, monthly basis.

I am impressed with Xbox sales compared to PS2 sales. I am interested in how October's and November's sales will end up with all the Halo2 fuss and GTA: San Andreas hubbub. This may prove to be the most interesting holiay season yet for the current generation of consoles.

I fear a little for Nintendo. The system isn't selling nearly as well as it should and the software sales leave a lot to be desired. I wonder if they can make at least a decent showing this holiday season. If the Xbox continues to sell better than it during the rest of the year htan Nintendi is in big trouble. I hope they are able to make somewhat of a comeback and build on the momentum of last year's holiday. If not, this could prve trouble in the future for Revolution. That is unless Nintendo is actually serious about not just surviving in the industry, but making a comeback. They might make a profit now, but that is all from the handheld region, they'd be able to make double that if they had a system that sold respectable numbers.

If Nintendo does not make another big move (like last year), the GC will move to a clear 3rd place, IMO. I don't see them making such a move, though.

And yeah, this would put the Revolution in a tight spot. The GC and Xbox split 3rd party games in 2001 because (A) they were not the PS2 and (B) they were equally appealing. I don't think that's going to happen again if N lets MS get experience, contacts and momentum this gen.

A lot depends, though, on how unique the Revolution actually is. The smaller the difference (or innovation, if you will), the more likely it will receive "standard" games like Madden, Soul Calibur, etc. The more unique it is, the more likely it will receive exclusive titles.

Wow!!!

As for the GCN, there will likely be a sales spike when Metroid Prime 2 hits the market. A spike will also occur when RE4 and Zelda 2005 are released. Zelda 2005, in particular, will be a massive hit and a huge profit generator for Nintendo.

Last one was in, I believe, June over May's numbers, so you guys get to split the difference. ;)

I'm not sure how interesting anything was in the intervening months, but I'm sure I know why Johnny mentioned this one. ;)

GC will come back with MP2, RE4 and Zelda. And there are a few gems that have been released this or last month, like Pikmin2 and Paper Mario2, both got excellent scores from reviewers, however the people don't seem to want those games :?

I think a lot of Nintendo fans are focusing on the imminent release of DS. That takes some focus away from titles like Pikmin 2 and Paper Mario.

Well they aren't what you would call "mainstream." They'll always fare poorly no matter how many of us eagerly await them.

100% agree with Sonic.

Agreed with cthellis42 as well

How long was Paper Mario & Pikmin2 available? Maybe they were available for the entire month.

I agree with thop that those titles will provide a bigger boost than the the two previous titles I mentioned.

I don't think the release of the DS takes away that much from the sales of Pikmin2 & Paper Mario though.

Fable 2 will definatley get made after looking at those sales numbers. It could become a million seller by the end of the year.

Fable 2 for Xbox 2.

Well we knew THAT. Heck, Black & White 2's getting made, too. ;) The only questions are "when" and "will they patch up the lackluster parts?"
