Yes, I'm as shocked as you. Was wondering if that number include the new PS2Slim version as well?

3 PS2 GRAND THEFT: SA - 159,167
14 XBX HALO 2 - 74,676

This is quite a drop for Halo 2. Its been less than a few months. SA still manages to find top 3 places though. Anyone knows which outsold the other in aggregate numbers?

I wonder was there a shortage.

Even if MS plans on launching the X2 in November here in North America, I don't see a good reason to dry up Xbox sales like this. MS alone has three big name releases to make one the Xbox.

Just seems stupid on MS's part. Anyone have a good reason the shortage continues?

Can't see a problem with stock of XBox in the U.K. Its in stock everywhere I look here, online and in store. BTW when did XBox drop to £99 RRP in the U.K? Had no idea that had happened until now.

TekkenMaster:
This is quite a drop for Halo 2.
There's another sales listing for Halo 2, actually: the Limited Edition version. It only added about another 13,000, though.
Anyone knows which outsold the other in aggregate numbers?
In the US, San Andreas has sold about 5.5 million to Halo 2's 4.5 million to date.

xboxs aren't on the store floors for a simple reason , the plugs . They had to stop shipment on units because of this .

No way. Recalled units are very old ones... or are they still in stock? :p

14 XBX HALO 2 - 74,676

This is quite a drop for Halo 2. Its been less than a few months. SA still manages to find top 3 places though. Anyone knows which outsold the other in aggregate numbers?

I belive it was estimated GTA:SA would sell between 12-16M copies and I believe the last time I heard it was well on that path. So my guess is GTA:SA has sold more copies. The 12-16M was a projection, I am not sure if that is on the PS2 alone, or if that includes the Xbox and PC.

OT: But I do not think comparing GTA:SA and Halo2 is really going to tell us too much. GTA:SA should sell more because it is on more platforms and has a larger install base to sell to.

Lets say it sells 15M copies on the PS2, which has an install base of 80M. That means 1 out of 5 PS2 owners will get GTA:SA. If this projection included PC and Xbox sales, you looking at about 1 copy sold for every 7 systems.

VERY VERY IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS.

But putting that into a Halo2/GTA:SA perspective, using the 5:1 ratio, that would mean Halo2 would only sell a total of 4M units. Yet Halo2 has sold almost 7M units to date. That means 1 out of every 3 Xbox owners has Halo2.

And then consider these three factors:

1) Not all sold console units are still in use. I do not know the exact percentages, but consoles break and/or they "retire" them. e.g. I have pretty much retired my GCN because I ONLY play with other people, and therefore since I got cable online has been more attractice. So who knows, of the 20M Xboxes sold, are still in use. I would not be surpised if only 15M were actively hooked up (same goes for the PS2 and GCN).

2) Halo2 is a short singleplayer game. The emphasis seems to be on multiplayer-online. The game has no bots, so if you do not have online access or friends to Lan-Xbox-Party with, well, the game is pretty short on fun by most reports.

3) Halo2 is a FPS. Like any game, a genre does not appeal to all gamers. e.g. I very much dislike the GTA series theme. It does not make it a bad game, it is just not a game that appeals to me personally. FPS are the type of game you either like or you don't--a lot of people are just not very good at them, especially with a console controller.

So when you add it all up and consider the fact Halo2 has sold almost 7M copies, on a platform with 20M units, is really impressive. Sales slowing down is NOT surprising to me. Who else do you expect to buy it? The only game I can think of that had as high of a sell through on a console is probably Mario 64 on the N64, where at one time it was close to 1:1 at the N64 launch. I would be surpised if there was more than 2 or 3 games, ever, that were able to sell at a 1:3 clip at the end of a consoles lifetime.

I know this was off topic, but Halo 2's numbers are really impressive. Any sales slow down is merely because there is hardly anyone left who does not have it who wants it.

423,000 for RE4 so far in its first 2 months, not bad. I previously predicted 700,000 by the end of the year in the U.S. I think I'll change my prediction to 800,000 now.

What about you Almasy? Are you sticking with your 600,000 prediction? That's a serious question and not a wind up BTW :)
