Looks very spiffy  Edit: Mind you, the shadow pop-up in the desert-like section wasn't so spiffy...

In the day of YouTube's and various other large networks of awesome free stuff online, why has someone not started up a huge online gaming file site that has no waits? Someone has to be willing to spend so much cash and never make any back, the YouTube people are doing it!!!

    Argh... waiting in line....

Video was very impressive. Great commentary on what to expect, etc. I really like that they are going with a no loading approach, loading has always taken me out of the "epic" feel of RPGs.

As far as visuals, hard to judge from video, but I must say I was really impressed. I hope some of the evil popping goes away by release, but other than that, I thought it looked very cool, especially the desert. That boulder/snow monster in the north looked awesome as well.

Sounds like it should be lots of fun and very interesting.

Looks good. Just hope the North American publisher gets it out this year.

I have read somewhere that they intend no to repeat past mistakes and bring it to the north american market much earlier than the previous games. ebgames.com has a 11/20/06 release date.

Generally, I must say the graphics kept the Gothic feel which is a good thing. Though, I must say that Oblivion looks better IMO. Things I did notice: The torch looks horrible with the static textured smoke. Moreover, I think they could have done a better job with the trees.
But then again this is Gothic, so who cares about the gfx.

Apparently there was a 2nd gold master, because they found a showstopper bug. Plus, you probably will need a dual core rig for a smooth gothic 3 experience. A patch will be out on release day, which is still october, 13th across europe.
I don't know if it has been mentioned here before, the game is said to have 550 quest. Oh, and an add-on is already in the works.

Just because the game runs 30% faster on dual core, presumably on CPU limited situation at low resolution, doesn't mean you'll actually need dual core.

True but like most things in the pc gaming world more power/rescources is always preferred.

This has actually nothing to do with frame rate. In Gothic 3 the world is streamed continuously from disk into the memory. With a single core there may be suttering here and there because the game can't load the data from disk fast enough. At least that's what Michael Paeck, the producer of the game, said in the interview I linked to.

Really looking forward to this game. I enjoyed Oblivion quite a bit, obviously, but the devs behind the Gothic series bring design aspects to their games that really surpass anything Bethsoft has done to date. In fact, most of the improvements of Oblivion over its predecessor strike me as being directly influenced by Gothic 2.

Funny that you mention this, apparently PC Gamer pretty much said the same thing in their preview. The problem I have with Oblivion is that the world seems to kind of sterile. The only purpose people in Oblivion have is to provide you with quests.

The disk isn't exactly limited by the rest of the system lol. Streaming from disk while running a game on PCs has just always sucked horribly. Can't imagine dual core can fix that. Probably an OS thing.

I think it's the lack of factions.

I can only speculate about this. First of all reading from disk does produce cpu load. Then I assume the data on disk is compressed, so uncompressing and maybe preprocessing the data produces cpu load, too. Then add a little cpu load for house-keeping things (memory management, etc.). I guess altogether we are talking about 20-50% cpu load, whenever the data is streamed from disk. Being able to offload the streaming to a second cpu should help in situation where cpu time is scarce anyway (complex scene, lots of actors on screen, etc.). Having said this, Michael Paeck corrected his statement in the mean time (beware, link is in german). The hardware requirements he mentioned in the krawall interview were meant for full details (sm3, high texture and shadow details, depth-of-field) and stutter from streaming has virtually disappeared in the final build.
It's not only the lack of factions. If you talk to the people, they are all kind of bloodless, they lack personality. You don't have the feeling that they actually live in that world (very unlike Gothic 2). The lack of hard and easy areas due to auto-leveling feels a bit unnatural. The main quest is so removed from the rest of the world. The quests themselves are mostly simplistic. There are a lot of details that add up.

still oblivion is a major quality effort IMO. and closer to Gothic (i never finished morrowind). still a little to 'pretty'? for my tastes? and though there were 100's? of caves and whatnot, they eventually got a sameness to them. still enjoyed the game immensely for over 100 hours. and didn't do everything. so i think i will enjoy replaying using another approach in a year or so. definately a keeper.

though i expect the same from G3.
