i may try (reload pre-save if i don't like) ratcheting up hunting skill tonight.

i did the 2-handed thing too. i take more damage (slower) in fights using 2 handed (usually use bow). can anyone take out things like trolls and those rock/ice/fire golems with a sword? i hate their regen ability.

oh, i 'finished' "3 scrolls of the scholars" mission (desert) (accidentally as usual) lastnight. though i don't know who to report this to for the points. i can't seem to find (mission screen) a "3 scrolls of the scolars" mission either (even in successful screen)...hmm...can anyone help? i also have (previous play) found the 10 urns, and 10 statues and all that, but i don't remember who gave me those missions either, (stuff is in inventory).

that's $25 million...i guess that's a good profit, but a game with THIS level of detail surely costs more to develop than the middle of the road (quality) games that cost $10s of millions to develop. this game deserves sales orders of magnitude above those games for sheer amount of content alone! IMO.

and if it were as tight as G2 NOTR, i bet they would sell 10's of millions of copies....like a GTA Vice City phenom. i hope it gets to that level with patches and expansionss.

It's not a mission - you just get some ancient knowledge points for finding all the items of a particular type. There are also tankards, figurines and tablets to find.

Doubt it :( They go down pretty quickly with the appropriate ice/fire attack though :)

Sure it deserves more ... ;) ... but G3 isn't a high budget title. The whole of PB is only about 18 employees and AFAIK they didn't have more than a handfull of externals and freelancers assisting them during the production of the game.

That puts them at roughly 20% of the staff that e.g. Oblivion had. Since they developed the engine on their own (besides speedtree and some animation system they licensed), they also didn't have to pay 6 to 7 figure licensing fees that might drive costs up. Their offices and other costs aren't spectacular either. I don't think the game cost more than maybe 5m € tops to develop, meaning that at 500k+ copies, the game made PB and JoWood a considerable profit and can IMO be considered quite a success.

Certainly hope so, and that a deeper add-on is in the works...

How is it going with the AA compability, have they made it possible to enable it on ATI/NV GPUs?

good news indeed. im glad to hear somebody can put out something like this efficiently. (no glut of 'suits' taking their inflated cut, while providing little to no real value...EXCEPT for the developers)...i'll call that the american way.

man, im nowhere near the end. (should've known, im still in level 1 rebel armor). i just got rebel rep up to 50%!

i also (exploit i found) was able to single handedly take out Ishtar (decided to do that cause the movie ishtar was on yesterday afternoon...a sign), without dying once! i was hoping to find an artifact, no luck. got some decent cash though. (love that treasure thing!)

i think i only have the crown, the robe. what are the 5 artifacts?

i've raided like 3 temples/tombs...couple in the desert, one nearer the woodsy area. i think one of them didn't yield anything.

    level 64 now.

i finally got paladin armor! is it a great boon to your toughness? i had some nordmarian armor (step up from rebel armor). somewhere i heard that the armor didn't scale well in terms of protection (one as good as another).
what is the best armor? is paladin the 2nd best? (i heard that too)

The Gothic community is in turmoil, as JoWood and PB announce to go seperate ways, despite the obvious financial success of the 3rd game, and can't seem to agree on who actually owns the rights to the brand. As a result, the long awaited and announced final patch will never see the light of day, the at least heavily hinted at add-on is not gonna happen and JoWood is looking for a new developer to produce Gothic 4 for them... :???:

A good collection of links on the topic can be found on RPG Watch.

Damnit! That patch is what I was waiting for to begin playing this game properly!

Is this a case of the big guys (JoWood) beating up on the little guys (PB) to drain out any potential last minute cash from the Gothic franchise? Or do you think that JoWood were genuinely unimpressed with G3 and figured they could do a better job themselves? Either way, immensely pissed off.

dagnabbit. i hope whoever did the actual work developing those games is the one who gets the rights. unfortunately the 'suits' love to claim ownership of things they in no way had a hand in creating other than maybe marketing, etc.

what's more they like to 'think' that the developers are just cogs, easily replaced, like a spark plug. sucks the 'love' right out of the game. and THAT is what i like BEST about RPG's...you can tell there's a lot of LOVE going into the great ones like Gothic(s).

Gothic 3 is completely playable i.e. finishable and definitely worth buying even without the probably-never-to-be-released ÜberGigaPatch™

The AI makes the game a bit too easy since its flaws can be so easily exploited. I haven't played G3 with the hardest mode, though, so I don't know if it affects the AI.

JoWood have the awesome ability to launch a good demo and a mediocre product after that which lacks a lot of support and ultimately playability..

If they played their cards right, Soldner would be where BF2 is today but they just don't seem to grasp the concept of updating a product with necessary technical fixes and listening to the community to enhance the product. Soldner left me so depressed with JoWood that I actually gave up on buying any of their products until they come out with something that is really good and has good technical support.

This is sad news! ;_; It was a great series that deserved better. Hope I'm not being too critical but this one smacks of some serious incompetence. Regardless of any issues either group had, all it was going to take was another bit of effort and maybe another $500K to make the Gothic franchise finally make people sit up and take notice. It was on the verge of something great, but at this point I'll never buy another Gothic game, period. It just didn't work well enough with my hardware. Maybe I'll try again when i get my next compter. Anyway, sorry, fans!!

i went over to world of gothic.com to get some advise on what to do with some the items im collecting (ancestor stones?) and ran across this:

    6/6/7
what i think this says, is that the Gothic devs are still in the game (ie they didn't grant EXCLUSIVE rights...only SPECIFIC rights)...which may or may not be a good thing, but certainly doesn't knock them out of the game entirely.

at any rate, maybe they can do what crytek did....sell farcry...then make Crysis along with same lines with their next gen engine. which i thought was a pretty slick move against the mega goon EA (it is EA that bought Farcry franchise right?)
