Its not hard for them to grasp. They just want to bitch and drive home the fact that the ps3 online is free.

When news of avatar store broke , people on neogaf were actually complaining that here comes M$ to rip us off by selling avatar crap beyond whats given free. Yet they were the same people who were singing the praises of home.... which is going to do exactly the same thing as avatars ... except you also have apartments and stuff to put in them that you can buy.

Personaly xbox live already gives me more than enough for my $3 a month and netflix is giving me enough with my $13 a month. Now i'm getting even more from that $16 a month that I was already spending. I can't see a reason to complain.

Will the Netflix packages or pricing change for HD? The current $8.99 a month package offers unlimited streaming so that would be a great deal.

I'm pretty sure you need a 2 disc rental plan which I think starts at $13 or so a month for it to work on the 360.

my bad sounds like its anything above the base plan , so the $9 one shoudl work

So, I tried update... works but I wont have LIVE.

I tried using 1440x900, and it is sweet... Everything is letterboxed!

    Thank you for the info.

    Looking at your signature

    and wondering, did you actually use a 1440 x 900 display for checking 1440 x 900 output?

Looking at your signature again, you seem to be aware of a problem that some games doesn't display properly on a 1280 x 1024 display with Xbox 360 output set to 1280 x 1024.

Can you confirm, that the same games you had problems with, now display correctly when setting the Xbox 360 output to 1440 x 900 on a 1440 x 900 display? Or are there still problems?

Would be interesting to know, if all games now work properly (especially with correct aspect ratio) with those two new 16:10 resolutions (1440 x 900 and 1680 x 1050) on a 16:10 display.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=340443&page=9 Here's a review and feedback thread on gaf. So far, everyone has been very impressed with it. It's super fast and just slick. There's a leaked version out that you can put onto your console BUT! you can't get on Live with it until the 19th. I'd sooo do this if GOTY wasn't coming out on Nov 7 :(

Thanks for the link. They don't mention if the new update allows players to create a new avatar composed of two or more people, and I'm very interested in something similar as it would be a perfect feature for me to use....

Only one avatar per profile/gamertag. Though you can have up to 8 outfits.

Yes 1440x900 is my telly resolution. Bit dodgy but for low price I guess it was inevitable!

1280x1024 is history to me. It is the resolution that you would want to avoid, not MS's fault but devs fault to implement it wrongly. A lot of games does look poor simply because you know that games won't run at 1280x1024 native, so they choose non HD res, stretch it, and most people won't complain anything about it.

On 1440x900 every game is letterboxed, so nobody is going to worry about anything.

It's past embargo time so my NXE report is back up. I may update later with 1440x900 and 1650x1080 shots too.

    Thank you for your reply.

Yes, unfortunately many users complain about 1280 x 1024 output. Still don't know why it's that hard to implement 1280 x 1024 support properly. Usually this should be the easiest supported resolution, shouldn't it?

I mean, Xbox 360 internal output or whatever you wanna call it, is always 720p (1280 x 720), isn't it? So why not just always add two black bars at the top and bottom of the picture? Each 152 pixels in height. Both would make 304 and that added to 720 would make the full 1024 height. So you would have a 1:1 720p display, letterboxed within the 1280 x 1024 output resolution. Usually this should be the easiest supported resolution with a different aspect ratio, shouldn't it?

Okay, that sounds good. But then again, i asked, because, usually every game should easily be letterboxed at 1280 x 1024, too, shouldn't it :wink:?

Thank you very much in advance grandmaster. It would be really nice if someone like you would review the functionality, compatibility and so on for the two new 16:10 resolutions (1440 x 900 and 1680 x 1050) and report if every game supports it properly without any issues.

I'd be interested to know if 1680x1050 ;) is supported over VGA? That would be a big boon for me.

It is, and is working very well for me. It features small black borders on the top and bottom, hence no more stretching!

wow at these load times from Rock Band 2:

It seemed a bit faster when I tried it earlier. I can do an actual test if you like.

edit - went ahead and tested. Chose quick play/Eye of the Tiger on all 3 tests

360 running old dashboard (has lots of DLC songs on the Hard Drive) - 15 seconds
360 running NXE playing game from disc (No DLC on HDD) - 13.5 seconds
360 running NXE with game installed to Hard drive (No DLC on HDD) - 9.5 seconds.

    Mass Effect times differences: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13454194&postcount=202

I'm not understanding all the attention that the Install to Hard Drive feature is getting. I could care less about load times or noise from the DVD drive. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great feature and one I'm glad Microsoft is offering. However... the requirement for the disc makes it next to useless for me. I _COMPLETELY_ understand why it's that way. I don't want it being abused(piracy) either, but I've become more of a Live Arcade/game demo kind a player mainly because I hate having to put a disc in the tray. XBLA has spoiled me in that regard. If they can figure out a way to allow me to install it to the hard drive and not require the disc while still keeping me from pirating the software, then I'll be as happy as a kid at Christmas.

The install is pretty big for me because I sit two feet away from my 360 and it's pretty loud. If I was in a normal home theater style setup with the unit further away, I don't think I'd care at all.
