I love the monsters and the graphics in games like doom, hl2, Far Cry, and screens I've seen of stalker etc, but I really hate the whole "darkness" and "wandering around with a flashlight" sort of thing. In that respect I thought Far Cry was one of my favorite games ever. I also like Joint Operations - another large scale foresty/outdoor shoot em game. I really like the feeling of open space in a game.

Are there any games I should check out that might work within that range? I have an X2 4600/2.41GHz, 3 Gigs, and an ATI x1950gt (hey, every game I got is on high with AA, ok? :) - except spore because I can't get it to work) at 1280x1024

    Thanks!

Wait for Fallout 3 or Far Cry 2. Until then I suggest Crysis. Or, if it's your forte, I also would like to mention Oblivion.

an oldy...IGI (im going in) or is it IGI2? is pretty outdoorsy...you can run infinitely across the landscape...or till you just decide it's infinitely. i probably ran for about 15 minutes...then 15 minutes to get back to anything close to action.

If Far Cry 2 is all they hype it will definitely be a great game. We'll see how that goes though. I certainly hope it is a surprise in a good way.

Yeap Chrome was fun, big outdoors, vehicles and others.

    Btw, for more outdoorsie gaming...

    Released:
"Project: IGI" & "IGI2" - Far Cry meets Stealth/tactical/Sniper Lovers
Boiling Point - GTA meets Far Cry (bit buggy but better after latest patch)
Just Cause - GTA meets Far Cry (3rd person game)
Call of Juarez - western, one of the better stories in an FPS
Crysis - not good for your current PC
    Crysis: Warhead - "

    Coming Soon..ish:
Far Cry 2 - Far Cry 1 in Africa minus mutants and sci-fi element
Fallout 3 - Oblivion meets Far Cry meets MadMax... sorta
Warhound - Similar to Crysis but more jungle
Precursors - Deus Ex meets Far Cry (probably the most ambitous FPS in this list)
Crome 2 - sequeal to Chrome ... obviously
Dead Island - Zombie Far Cry
White Gold - Spiritual Succesor to "Boiling Point"... and you can SURF A SHARK!

    ... i'm sure theres others I've missed.

Project IGI was great, but I can't recommend it over its - otherwise slightly inferior - sequel solely on account of its nonexistent savegame system.

You should be able to play Crysis at Medium wiithout too much trouble. If you liked Farcry you will love Criysis. Its made by the same devs and is effectively the sequel (Far cry 2 is made by a completely different team who simply bought the name)

IGI 1 had checkpoint... long checkpoints.

IGI 2 had a limited save per mission using your laptop, the batteries would deplete after each save.
