    Oblivion (screenshot) = 1024x600 (2xAA) on 360

Is the GOTY Edition 1280x720 (2xAA)?

Highly unlikely that Bethesda would completely re-write the graphics renderer for a mere re-release, but I'll see if I can find my GotY copy.

Wrong, MLB is just the exception because it's native 720p game without software rescale
Games with size display setting are generally games with software upscale in their engine (like all sub720p game) and the setting just change the software rescal process for avoid overscan and increase the number of native pixel displayed for overscaned TV, no performence cost (or rather a benefit performence)
MGS4 have this type of setting because it use software rescale to transform 1024x768 in 1280x720 or 1920x1080

it's one vertical display scanning, at 60hz 1VBL sync is 60fps

So whats the minimum framerate of MGS4? 60FPS or 30FPS? cause I certainly saw some dips. (mainly during cutscenes).

Quite some dips in cutscenes and when dust/smoke kicks up near the player, very noticable.

Actually, I didn't notice the dips so much as the jumps.. when it would suddenly spike up to 60fps, that was more jarring than the "standard" framerate, which seems to hover around 30fps most of the time. They should have just locked it.

Has anyone analyzed Wii games? Are those always at 720x480@60fps or are there exceptions with lower resolution like on PS3 and xbox360?

I would hope that in this day and age, even the Wii can pull out 480p without breaking a sweat. If it can't, then it's got issues.

No I think games can support widescreen resolution natively, as I think Okami does.

I'm pretty sure there was a big fuss going on pre-release about Okami not even being real 16:9. As in, still has thin bars on either side.

i doubt, need proof with screenshot
for exemple Mario Galaxy is 640x480 in widescreen, i think the indie framebuffer isn't adapted for more
