One IGN editor mentioned he thought the 360 version looked a little sharper in resolution.

Source is the GTA IV review podcast. Discussion about the differences they noticed starts at 43:15.

It's smoother, less aliasing (jaggies). I like Quinqunx, because it's really effective at eliminating jaggies, at the same computational cost as 2xAA.

It's removes more jaggies, but cleaner isn't the right word imo. Every time I see a quinqunx image, I check my glasses to make sure they aren't smudged.

As GTAIV is using an effect to produce a more painterly look which splatches out the detail anyway, quincunx shouldn't have a notable negative impact.

isnt quinqunx used when Geforce 4 was around, I remember it in the control panel with my 4600 TI and I dont really like it cuz it make everything blurry. I prefer 2X MSAA + transparency AA.

When the game releases I'll have a PS3 shot for you, but it wont be framebuffer like the 360 one, but I suppose it'll make due :p

The IGN video review is mostly from the 360 version but there is a couple of seconds of confirmed (L1/R2) PS3 footage.
The aliasing and flickering looks pretty bad in places. The bridge at 2:10 looks horrible.

maybe screen grabs of the PS3 section will work. my pc is too weak to run HD video though.

So downscaling 768 to 720 and upscaling 1024 to 1280?

    Damn.

    ...or just upscale to 1920x1080

i think also that anamorphic resolution with excess of vertical lines (like GT5p, VF5, MGO, Lair and other...) is good (compared to a resolution with same numbers of pixels of course) for ground rendering, for reduce filtering and shaders artifact on ground creat by hard perspective, and ground is omnipresent in games and is a big portion of display
maybe this element help devs to choose this compromise (anamorphic resolution) even if the first reason isn't this one

those are pretty lousy shots ... the IGN HD version of the video review was a lot sharper. There is a section in-doors where the camera doesn't move for a bit that could be of a good enough quality - certainly better than these shots.

That's a shot from that HD video review (or it's just coincidence that it's from the same location). Not sure it is the part where the camera is absolutely still, but it may be good enough.
