My android phone randomly reboots, any way to retroactively read the logs?

if that is the case.. yikes! we can't trust batteries health status :(

its like those fake USB flash drive or MicroSD cards. The firmware reports as 128GB but it actually only have 4 GB capacity lol.

The battery is just shot. Don't use the phone while charging the battery. It kills the battery

You probably have root and or a custom rom.
Default the phone and use it for a week: no reboots.

If you get a single reboot: return the phone: it's broken.

First time I ever heard of this.

    @Egmon83

Like I said, it's the battery.
I have replaced it. It's fine now

About using phone whole charging kills battery, it's not the activity itself that kills the battery. But it's the heat that kills the battery.

Lithium ion battery does not have durability to withstand high temperature use while I'm high cell voltage for a long time.

It's maximum optimal operating temperature with more than 4v per cell is only around 30 celcius. When you charge and use phone, it can go well over 40 celcius.

This battery torture can make battery lost half of its capacity in 6 months. Even worse, it also become more and more unable to sustain high load.

Fine for power efficient phone, but a nightmare for power hungry phone like my LG g pro 2 with its full HD 6 inch screen and old snapdragon 800.

Btw now I use the app I made to disable usb charging as I see fit.

    https://play.google.com/store/search?q=Disable usb charging&hl=en

So generally I only charge only up to 80 percent.

This also result in lower operating temperature, resulting in less throttling when using the phone while connected to charger.

The throttling in my phone is pretty bad when charging. The whole Android UI even became a stuttery mess.

At worse point, my 2.3ghz snapdragon got throttled to 900 mhz :(

When you use the phone the temperature goes over 30 as well; so using your phone kills your battery; try it.

There are no recent high-end android phones without thermal throttling; this shows that they cannot sustain a high performance mode of operation. (compare to A9 for example and laugh :) ). It's true that batteries degrade faster when exposed to high temperatures, but in an Android phone the battery is going to die fast anyway; because of the constant near-overheating. It's soo laughable the way Android manufacturers advertise performance:
"This new phone is so and so fast!! * "
    *for 3.5 minutes

But yes, you have to play with the cards your dealt with, so good luck with manual down clocking and managing charging, while praying for updates :p

My point is, using you phone while charging increase the stress.

I didn't say using your phone without charging make the battery last forever...

Btw to be clear I WANT manual thermal underclock management. But my phone's kernel did not allow me.

It automatically throttle so aggressively. It impact the user experience.

Actually if the kernel allows voltage control, it's even better.

In my previous phone, Xperia sp, I downvolt by 500mv or something and it does wonders.

Heck, I also downvolt my windows 10 tablet and it also does wonders. I blame the super low 6 watt sdp...

Am I correct to assume that you changed kernels to gain control over the clock speeds because it throttled too much?
And with your own, presumably better, settings, the battery died. Because you often used your phone while charging it?

If that's correct, then I understand why most Android manufacturers refuse to repair any phone which has modified software

    Incorrect

I use stock kernel, stock firmware, stock ROM.

Like I said, I WANT to be able to control the throttling and voltage. But I can't. Because I'm using stock kernel.

LG is a total ass in Android support. This is a flagship phone and was forgotten just like that.

Compared to 200 dollar cheap ass Asus tablet that about the same age as LG g pro 2. Guess what? Asus even release an update to fix stagefright bug!

    LG? Nope! Nothing!

I thought Sony is horrible when I use Xperia sp. But man... Lg is way worse.

Sony at least consistently release bug fixes albeit super slow at releasing major Android update.

I really envy Xiaomi with their awesome update support.

Okay I see. Well that sucks then, I feel you. Android fans once told me that Nexus devices are the only ones which have 18 month guaranteed updates. I would put my money there if I ever bought an Android phone :)

isnt android more and more moving to native? its started with ART.

btw i dont understand how the heck cyanogenmod make this phone so smooth. it was a laggy mess, even when scrolling.
on my previous phone, Xperia SP, cyanogenmod also make my phone smoother. But the difference is not as big as this LG g pro 2.

its like... on stock LG G pro 2 its... as if i was playing a video game with 30fps cap AND inconsistent frametime. Now in Cyanogenmod, its like 60fps all the time, with consistent frametime.
