I never noticed before but that's actually quite close to a normal wide aspect

Yeah, 3x1 in *portrait* mode is like having a giant monitor, not surround, so it's great for these types of "board" games. It's actually 3886x1920 bezel compensation. (2.02:1 vs 1.77:1 for 1080p).

I need to finish my latest game and go back to landscape so I can stop playing Civ 5. For some reason it's turning into Mize-crack and I'm staying up past 1 AM playing it. Ugh! :)

The problem with selecting 1 screen is the view is zoomed in a lot more than it is with a single monitor
selecting 3 screens fixes that but because 3 screens was designed for a curved screen each monitor is rendered with a different view frustum (correct term ???) and the horizons of the side monitors are angled downwards (i think if you were to angle your side monitors at a 45degree angle it would fix it)

You can see the angled horizon problem below (not my picture)

I always get it in a window - not full screen. Perhaps I need to reinstall. I've had to reinstall a couple other games to get them working right with SLI/Surround.

Those Civ 5 screenshots look great. The fact that I have to scroll on my 30" to view all of one. . . .

Shogun 2 looks pretty sweet too (as does Rage)...

Well my office (aka gaming room) is now a guest bedroom until Wednesday :( , though it's good to have my Mom visiting.
Only tablet gaming until then I'm afraid.

Wednesday I'll try to get a screenie or two of Shogun 2 in both 6028x1200 and 3886x1920. So far, other than racing games, I find the 3886x1920 the better arrangement...

I'm *really* enjoying Rage, which I picked up for $15 on a Christmas Steam sale, so if you can create a few screenies of it outside while racing that would be great. The Shogun 2 shots, maxed out, would also be nice. If this 30" dies on me I'll have to seriously consider going with two quality 24-27" screens instead of a replacement 30".

I'd probably enjoy the heightened vertical too with the 3886x1920 res. And you're right, racing games and flight sims need the wider view. . .I'd love to see Rise of Flight at 6028x1200.

I picked up 3x Dell U2412Ms for $299 each with free shipping (at first only two but the older 2405FWP just didn't fit in...) so about $500 less than a good 30" IPS. I really like being able to choose my aspect ratio and Rage is good at the 60x12 orientation owing to the panoramas and racing.

Love my Mom but I'm starting to get twitches and seeing spiders...need fix...

    :)

And to think, at the beggining you had doubts, oh ye of little faith...

ps: I had the choice of multi-monitor or 3d and I think I made the right choice, how about you ?

I haven't done 3d, but I used to play Q3Arena with that mod for 3D and it was fun but nothing like surround/eyefinity.

Sigh, you guys have me seriously eyeballing 24-27" displays now. I'll probably stick with just two since I prefer single GPU setups and NV boards (though that's assuming the next-gen NV will continue supporting only two displays per board) and I can rotate those two screens if desired.

My Dell 3007 that I picked up in 2006 is aging, the backlighting is uneven in the middle now and getting slowly worse, so that's an incentive to upgrade and looking at the U3011's sticker price of $1300 or $1200 for the HP ZR30W is somewhat daunting. If Dell runs a sale on those U2412s again that's basically .5m more pixels for half the price. I'd almost prefer rotating them for web browsing too.

Oh, forgot to add that, yes Davros, you played a significant role in my decision to go multi-monitor.

As for 2 screens it's good for things like multiple games or using one for instruments in a sim.

Here's a couple Rage shots at 60x12. Keep in mind that the left and right thirds are angled forward to give a surround effect while playing.
