Depends. Fiber doesn't have to go up and down....but satellite optical links would be operating in more direct straight lines than the cables on earth.

Also light travels a bit faster in a vacuum.

How all this will work in practice is anybody's guess. Think initially the more remote a user is the larger the benefit.

Hells yeah! Latency in the 1000's of ms. :) Granted it's likely improved, but I doubt it's improved so much.

I tried gaming on a Satellite internet connection back in the 2000's and lets just say that it's not pleasant. :p

See above. 20-98ms. With one outlier at 256ms. Nowhere near 1000+ms.

OK that makes this more feasible, as long as it's ideal conditions. With satellite TV, heavy cloud cover and storms can interfere with the TV signal, I wonder how well Starlink deals with this?

And to think all of this is being done because some ultra-rich person wants to settle on Mars. The electric vehicles, bettery storage, space ships, satellite networking, boring technology, and flamethrower are all steps in their conquer Mars plan.

touch controls makes for an interesting discussion of game design. Are we going from mobile to console, or console to mobile.
ie - what we see with Among Us.

I had a quick go with Slay the Spire with touch controls. Perfect game for touch/streaming really. I tweaked the control position to push them more into the side boarders on my phone (which is 20:9)

First info on a streaming stick in the future, from an interview with Phil done by 'stratechery' Some other interesting bits that the Verge pulled out are a new 'platinum' tier of game pass which would guarantee access to Xbox hardware, ios streaming app early next year, and that we should expect lower price ways to access the xbox ecosystem in the future (I assume this means the streaming stick).

Also with the platinum game pass tier, that to me seems to suggest a 'series x pro' in a couple of years, then iterate on that, so while the base consoles, the X and S would be the base models for the entire gen, the pro model would get a new version every couple years. If they did that and tied it to a higher tier of game pass it could be very interesting to see what the end of the gen looks like, maybe with a ps5 pro with, at a random guess 15 Tflops, whereas the series x pro could potentially be on 25 Tflops after a few revisions

In any case here is where I first saw this: https://www.resetera.com/threads/ph...-and-a-solution-for-ios.311506/#post-49231756

Here is the verge article that i read https://www.theverge.com/2020/10/23...ck-xcloud-cloud-gaming-phil-spencer-interview

And here is the paywalled interview that the statechery had with phil spencer
    https://stratechery.com/2020/an-interview-microsoft-executive-vice-president-of-gaming-phil-spencer/

    very interesting all round

I dont think they'd add any tiers to Game Pass, they already have Game Pass Ultinate.

I'd hope any streaming stick has an ethernet port build in, 'cos that what suits me. Seems unlikely!

you should let it all hang loose lol. Or at least space it out from right against the back of the tv.

I 3d printed spacers for my fire sticks a long time ago. I use the command hook velcro stuff to stick the mount to the back of the tv and then just a small portion of it hangs off the mount allowing better cooling
