I have yet to finish the first ME but I am in the progress of doing it. So far the plot has been very interesting and side missions pure garbage. But from what I understand here is that the plot/history in ME2 is really dialed back vs first ME?

Is ME2 borderline entry light weight RPG and more FPS than the first ME?

It's more character driven. But the side missions are actually good.

Im enjoying the game actually. I like how its been streamlined a little, I kind of am thankful for the simplification of the combat/collection of goodies. Im the type that picks a level clean of everything you can possibly take with you, if its not nailed down... :-D

But I do think the story of ME1 was probably better.

I quite enjoy ME2. Yes, the main plot is a bit weak, but I think the strength of ME2 is definitely in the characters. And it's also very nice that the side missions are actually somewhat interesting.

Though I should mention that the reapers are actually starting to make a little bit of sense (motivation-wise), if you can accept the new reveal about one of the things that they do.

That one thing looked pure nonsense to me lol.
Reapers don't assume try to the shape of species they eradicate or plan to eradicate contrary to what most believe...cause if that was the case they would be looking like Protheans [or atleast like the keepers who can possibly be the race that reapers wiped out before protheans] & not some Giant squid. This reapers assuming the shape of species they destroy stuff was being done for the first time as far as I know.Btw only having a mere imagination of that Human-reaper thing flying cracked me up.

Who would've thought that Shepard is actually John Connor fighting Skynet at the end

Fish feeding is flaky, failed on my first playthrough ... worked on insanity though (wanted a save with everyone alive and
    miranda as ex-cerberus
    ).

So far, I have to take back what I said before about the game having a good storyline. It doesn't have one or at least it isn't enough for the devs to even devote any time to it.

Character relationship developement is a complete and utter joke compared to ME1. You can pretty much say anything you want to them with no ill effects and no impact on their loyalty as long as you agree to do their side mission when it comes up. In ME1 you actually had to work somewhat to even get their side mission.

Character storylines are about on par with ME1. I'm not seeing how they are even remotely better. And some are just so much worse. There's virtually NO interaction with Garret at all. One of the main character's close friends from the past, and he's not even interested in talking or trying to find out more about what happened to him since ME1. Grunt is basically just glossed over for the most part. There was so much potential to do things there. I could go on an on.

Adventure area's are absolutely TINY. I'd be willing to bet that ME2 has half (or less) the content that ME1 has.

The biggest area in ME2 (Citadel) is roughly the size of the smaller areas in ME1. It's like ME2 was a total after thought. It's not even half the game ME1 was. I'd less less than 1/4 the game ME1 was.

And the more I play the more I see the total lack of inventory as a complete and utterly moronic choice. There virtually no interesting weapons. Armor is simplistic and has very little effect. You can't find cool armor to customize the look of yourself or your party (wooo 2 looks to toggle between, barf). Hell, they don't even offer any new freaking weapons to BUY.

This game is a compete and utter steaming pile of POO. I'm now trying to finish the game just so I can say I've finished it. I feel more like I'm working than playing a game.

What a freaking wasted opportunity. I'm sitting here wondering what kind of crack all the reviewers were smoking to give it such high ratings.

On its own I probably would have thought more kindly towards it. But since it's a sequel to ME1, there's already a set bar with which it must be compared. And in that comparison, this game totally falls flat on its face. Basically committing suicide before it even enters the ring to fight it out with ME1.

    Regards,
    SB

Oh, well, I guess you missed the part about them being unable to do that with the Protheans (for undisclosed reasons). And they were also apparently only making one reaper out of humans (or maybe a few). This basically explains the biggest question surrounding the reapers: why do the reapers go away and let civilizations grow? What purpose do they have in coming back to wipe them out? Procreation is about as good a reason as you can get (even if the means of procreation is a bit silly).

    Deus Ex FTW!

If you were a commander, would you value the amount of kills, or would you value a successful mission with the least amount of kills?

Yeah, I know, too abstract for the perceived buyers (teenagers). But perfectly fitting for the actual buyers (by far 30+).

I was thinking about a "who did you shag in Mass Effect 2?" thread. I got to do Miranda
on the floor of the engine room [IMG]

I don't know what was wrong with either of the double beds in either sets of quarters, but it would be churlish to complain. And this little re-edit made me laugh:

I kept thinking she looked very familiar, so I was quite pleased to find out that Miranda is voiced by and modelled after Yvonne Strahovski from Chuck, but as a brunette instead of a blonde.

The entire engine room floor left me thinking wtf? Seriously, that flooring would only be comfortable for a krogan. The gaming industry seriously needs to grow up. If Bioware thinks foul language in ME2 and blood showers in DA are signs of a maturing industry, content-wise, they're fooling themselves.

Yeah, very cliche. Mind you, if you check out the other romance scenes on Youtube, the Tali one is quite sweet, and Jack has two of them. One is a "casual hot roll in the hay", and one is a "opens her heart to reveal the true person".

ugh.... fixing issues by removing features??? No thank you. :/ *sigh*

I'm convinced that the dark energy (yes, pollution) is the reason the surprisers are wiping the galaxy though. EDI's speculations are just batshit retarded.

Really really easy to get something like that for all the races you fight. Just use concussion shot to push an enemy off an edge onto something you normally can't stand on.

Even after they get off they will continue to make the falling sound until you kill them.

Okay who else smirked when they heard Callista being played in Afterlife ? :)
I am talking about this song:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POHscfRZty8

Its even amazing when you come to know that its a song from 90s & still fits the game's universe perfectly. Ha !

I just noted how much it sounded like the music from System Shock 2.
