Low Power Full Speed Opterons

How does this miracle of technology occur? How do they nominally shave off 34w from their cutting edge chips? Advanced processes? Alien technology? Campaign contributions and pirated "Talking Carebear" parts?

Nope, they cherry pick. Yes, Opterons off the current production lines can run at "full speed" while consuming only 30w

So some Opteron processors consume less power than others on the same wafer???

How does this work or has The Inquirer got it wrong?

This is all just my ill-informed ramblings, but don't these new processes rely on low capacitance? Perhaps the quality/thickness of the insulator varies across the wafer having localised areas which are better than others?

Yeah I have no clue either but I would beleive it, the question is how much more will they charge. And they might overclock darn well :)
