Linux remote desktop app

I'm looking for some app that does the same that win "remote desktop". I'm using it from uni to logon to my pc and "work" from uni, as the uni's pc are very restricted in funcionality. I have to use linux, because i need it to make programs (as is required in one of my classes), and i need some app that let me use it from uni. Don't want console servers, i want something that allows me to work as i were sat in front of my pc, something like a citrix terminal server or so.

TIGHTVNC over SSH would be the best, with compression on both if the CPU cycles aren't a problem for you. Never been for me.

It's very secure and it's fast. Even with just tight vnc with max compression and 8bit colours, the thing is very fast, it can almost keep up with my typing.
