I don't want to be spoiled by an unfinished work in progress. I will buy when it is fully available and ready. Its like driving an unfinished car with primer all over it, you get tired of it even before the fresh coat of paint drys. Just my way of thinking, thats all.

Correction: the leak was quite considerably higher up the food chain. Details to follow soon, but let's just say that Activision now has even more reason to be pissed off.

Anyone believe the demo runs the way it does because Carmack is executing the shadow volume calcs on the cpu. If he is, it would be nice if he optimized the game for powerful gpu processors with more than one VS, so the game would be less cpu bound. I mean, the cpu is doing physics, AI, and what ever other memory fetch operations, etc. Carmack should offload even a little more to the gpu, if this is the case. If he is trying to serve the gf2/radeon card, the game is going to run slow as molasses anyway. There should be an option, as on moto gp, where the user can choose vertex or pixel shader acceleration. Does anyone agree/disagree?

Aside from this, does anyone know what Carmack is using vertex acceleration (gpu) for, are there any animations or particle effects which could benefit from this (not to complex).

I just noticed that you can get a much better flashlight by editing the "DoomConfig.cfg"

Use this instead of flashlight3.tga which, BTW, does not even exist:

    > seta g_flashlight_shader "lights/flashlight2"

Then use console and type "flashlight". What you get is some very impressive lightning effects...

    EDIT:

You can also edit the flashlight lag like this to make it more "precise":

    > seta g_flashlight_lag "1.0"

    Re: Resolution change?

Are you sure this works? I tried this and it had absolutely no effect.

It's not about "pretending" it never happened - it's about simply discussing it. It is equal to advertising and publicizing a leaked software.

This, however, doesn't come down to just the website/forum involved - it comes down to its participants/community as well. Hopefully, folks here will not discuss anything about the leak.

If VE has a forum and a discussion about this leak took place (even if d/l links are not provided), I'd delete any discussions about it. And as much I would love to experience this leak, I never attempted to d/l it (no, not even if it was a manageable dial up size).

I'm sure Epic took no pleasure from having discussions about their leaked UT2003 build even if links weren't provided.

Oops, I realized I just contributed to what I said shouldn't even be happening.

But I get to tell y'all that "I told you so" when this game is released next year: great engine, lousy game, carry on as usual id Software. 8)

P.S. And, no, I haven't even tried to d/l this leak and I won't. And as much as I bag on id I'm sure I'll buy Doom 3 the very day it hits store shelves.

Waiting for an official demo, I fear it'll be one more technical demo ID software does and call 'game'.

Well, if the "technical demo" is fun to play, they can call it what ever they want, I will still buy it. JMHO of course.

    y all this id bashing?

who else is pushing the graphical boundries like this?

i suppose it would be easier for everyone to swallow if ID just come clean and said they were concentrating on building engines from now on...

leave all the other software houses to purchase this, and then concentrate on making the games..

Isn't this situation plain hypocritical? On the forum don't put links, but those who have D3 can discuss about it... so if you want it, just pm them
Anway, i'm not a moderator

    Re: Resolution change?

Thanks that works! Going from 640x480 to 1024x768 induces a HUGE performance hit on my Geforce 3. Looks way better on my 19" monitor though. Any speculation on high-res textures? The game looks GREAT but the textures seem sort of low res sometimes. There are no detail textures as well. Still, this engine is a nice step forward. The whole "low polygon" debate seems moot to me after seeing this. It just doesn't look low polygon to me while playing.

It would seem nggalai is referring to the fact that Xian, from Id, apparantly stated in an online chat that ATI were responsible for the leak.

The alleged transcript of his comments are here:

    http://frenchfragfactory.net/news.shtml?pwrfilter=Doom3

One comment that really doesn't make sense is that in the chat Xian apparantly said that ATI accidentally sent them a laptop with a full development build of Unreal Warfare several months ago. Now, isn't UW X-box only? Why the heck would ATI have a copy on one of their laptops? It's not like they would be compatability testing it on their chips or anything.

Hopefully the parties involved will make some kind of statement one way or another before this 'rumor' get's out of hand.
