can someone who has it pm me... ati radeon 9700 pro and an athlon 2000xp at 2.1 ghtz on a 200mhz bus... 512megs of ram. I'm thinking this is almost as top of the line as we can get , i can also drop the fsb and bring the chip up to 2,280 mhz (something like that) but it runs slower.

Does anyone have an idea of how well this will run on inferior systems?

Is there a 320*240 or worse mode? (original DOOM had a 160*120 or something mode, didn't it? - the Game Boy Advance resolution...)

Activision plays it quite rough, they threaten web sites with legal action just for publishing the unauthorized screenshots; even B3D had to take the link down. I'm not saying however that they're wrong to do so... I can perfectly understand them, just as well as everyone who wants to get their hands on the demo ;)

On the other hand, I believe that Activision is already late, it has already gotten into peer-to-peer file sharing networks and private FTPs. I don't think they could stop it from spreading now...

Is this an official id software release? Does John Carmack and the rest of id approve of it's distribution? I know curiosity often gets the best of us, and I'm probably wasting my time, but here's a little reminder: if this software was leaked, then it is stolen property. Anybody care to discuss the ethics of contributing to the distribution of stolen property? Probably not.

I would like to see the B3D moderators take the high road and delete this thread.

Im pretty certain that would just be a "Do as I say not do as I do" action for at least some of the moderators ... Id rather see them keep a modicum of dignity and keep it open.

I would have loved to see you use that line to John Carmack's face right about the time he learned of the leak. I doubt you'd be smiling for long.

Believe it or not, software theft and piracy is not a laughing matter for some people in the software industry.

while i agree that software theft is a big deal i doubt anyone should be worried about alpha and pre alpha leaks on the net. Most people can't get them working or even know where to find them. As of now there are no downloads for doom 3 on kazaa

    *nod*

My Activision contact was rather . . . irritated about the leak. Or let's just say he went completely haywire ("you've only got one chance to make a first impression!"). Same from some other devs who work with the DooM3 engine--they got heat you wouldn't believe. The leak is supposedly from a Quakecon participant, though, but a lot of people are pissed off about this . . .

Oh, well. what's done is done. Still, I'd like to hear what the mods of B3D have to say about this thread--it got moved, so apparently Wavey is taking a liberal approach.

I think you are all stupid for downloading this leak, it will spoil your first impression of the game!!!

Anyway, downloading as I write this.

Edit: Sorry, had to remove my hint on how to find the leak.

Lol, you are funny man. Yes I would actually have said this to JC.

In fact, think of this for 1 moment...

    1) What we are downloading is infact a demo made for E3. Everyone who is downloading this file knows it.
    2) Imagine for 1 moment, the interest that this leak is causing. Soon, everyone and their dog will have it.
    3) Everyone is discussing this game, everyone knows or will soon know what Doom3 is.
    4) Hardcore gamers such as myself who said "yeah doom3 pff", are now saying "ughhh ;) im carmacks bitch, I gotta upgrade to an uber pc, just to run it properly"
    5) Im sure carmack is actually smiling at the moment, why? Because its a test, not the full game. And any publicity is good publicy.

"I doubt you'd be smiling for long."

Yeah, well the mods have my email. What is anyone going to do? Im not making a profit, nor am I sharing the game. Nor am I releasing pictures of it on the net?

If I were you, i would see the gravity of the situation and realise one thing, once something is out on the net, there is little you can do.

"Oh, well. what's done is done. Still, I'd like to hear what the mods of B3D have to say about this thread--it got moved, so apparently Wavey is taking a liberal approach."

    Exactly!

Well it is an id game, so don't expect anything original from it.

There is not much point arguing with a man who is stubborn and already made a decision. If you were taking an hour long exam, but your professor collects the exam before the hours is up, would it be fair to base this work off of what you are capable of?

For those with problems with the sound skipping..

Goto into dxdiag and turn acceleration down to basic.
