Just got a 2600xt, where does this stand? Power consumption? Performance? etc?

Every user's first (5?) posts are moderated. Like it or not. There are a lot of spambots out there, and this helps eliminate them.

Somewhat harsh to the non-spambots don't you think? But hey,i can't do anything about it,so no point in complaining,i'll drop it.

How is it harsh? The rules apply to everyone. I had to wait awhile for my first post to show up. In fact, I waited long enough that I thought perhaps something went wrong during my posting and posted the same message twice more before a mod got to my post in the queue. Get to 5 posts and you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Like everyone said, new members have their first few posts auto-moderated to prevent spam from disturbing our sensibilities. Sorry if it's annoying, but it's frequently useful. New users also have some other limits (can't edit your posts, can't PM anyone) placed on them initially, but nothing that should prevent you from participating freely.

And, just so no one starts doubting their sanity, depending on how busy this thread gets, a mod might delete these last few posts just to streamline things.

Edit: Heh, Vegeta, if I trim this page I might just delete it b/c it's redundant since I've freed your first (attempt to) post from limbo. Look up. :)

Alright,i know all of this now,but i hope i don't get this message deleted for saying that my HD 2600XT runs Crysis on Medium (Post Processing and Motion Blur on low/off) @ 1280x720 with 20-35FPS on a E4500 @ Stock and 2x1GB DDR2 667 RAM.

Not bad at all. Seems like even the most powerful rigs still have difficulty running this game with more than a handful of high settings, albeit at higher resolutions (usually in the 1080P range).

Yeah, quite surprising for Budget Card (Came with my Dell, but if i bought it seperately it would be around $100 most likely) wonder how well a 8600GT running on a PC with the same specs as mine would fare :p

Should someone with an X1650XT consider updating to a HD2600XT? I haven't really heard of any real praise for either the 8600GT or the 2600XT in most places.

Not really worth it,i'd just wait and save up for a 8800GS.

No. I was using an X1650 XT until just recently, and contemplated the exact same upgrade (mostly for audio output over HDMI). After checking the performance of each, I found that in many situations (mostly pixel-bound scenarios) the X1650 XT was actually faster, while in the situations the 2600 XT won, it was often by very little.

Look to an HD3850 or faster for an upgrade. 8800 GT is your best bet though, IMHO. I just got one and what a world of difference!

Yeah, I know the 8800GT is sex-a-licious, but I'm more concerned with power (too lazy to buy a new PSU) than 1200p. The most I want is 1024, but is more than happy with 720 at 60fps. I'm eyeing an HD3850 and just pray someone would make a silent version of it.

Yeah, but it's a bit much. I don't need 512MB of RAM. Still, what are the odds of that dropping another 50 bucks within 6 months? With a price around 150, I might consider it (I know I'm asking for a bit much for a card that powerful for so little cheap). Or perhaps AMD/Nvidia might come up with something better than the 2600 and 8600 within the next few months. Perhaps a 3850 with 128 bit bus?

Yeah, what the hell are they up to in the sub 150 segment these days? I heard the 2600 is re-branded with some DX10.1 features, but hardly anything to get excited about. I mean, are we going to have to wait for G95(?) and r7xx to see new cards for trash picking bums like myself?

HIS 3850 IceQ is very quiet and also factory overclocked, I'm not sure if the price is right for you though:

I hate to sound picky, but I HATE HIS. My X1650XT is HIS, and this month is the 1 year anniversary of my card dying. It took me 2 weeks agony to get in contact for RMA, and then another 2 months before they finally fixed the damn thing. Not before totally screwing with my head during the RMA process. I'm never buying from HIS ever again. One day, I plan on writing a big article about my pain on my blog for everyone to see.

My X1650 XT was from HIS as well - isilence II model. I ended up replacing the heatsink with some aftermarket POS but at least it had a fan and allowed me to play games without lockups due to overheating.
