AFAIK or the last thing I head, the Multiplayer of HL will be CS2. They were going to add "classic" MP back to HL2 later in an update. But that was a while ago so it may change.

Oh I agree but 4 player servers will fill up fast. I would hope that as as erver admin you can run more than one version of it at a time (meaning its not that hard on the specs of the server). I also was wondering about the MP game it self. Will they just have CTF and DM? While that is cool and all of that, its also "been there done that". I was hoping for a few new things game play wise. But can not judge till we play it... As a side note: Our Chaos mod features a "Duel" game type that defaults to one-on-one fighting in arena type maps using Melee weapons (of course you can change the number of players, weapons, ect). But the 4 player limit matches the idea behind this gametype that we did :)

Well if it has heavier requirements then it is going to have some impact. Of course given enough time there will be some work arounds to get decent network game play from a Mod...

These doom3 benchmarks only confirm 2 things we already knew:

    1. DOOM3 is faster on 6800 boards because it's Nvidia's biggest TWIMTBP darling.

    2. the 6800GT is a wonderful piece of hardware that's basicly a 6800ultra, only much cheaper and insignificantly slower.

I was considering a to buy 6800GT already. I expect nvidia is selling these babies at big losses just like they did with the 5900XTs and SEs, but now I actually want one!

If Ati wants to compete they'll just have to follow the same tactics and start selling their flagship under a cheaper name too.

NV40 only has a few features designed for Doom 3. nVIDIA did not make NV40's entire architechture based on Doom 3.

Isn't it against ATI's wishes to mod the X800 Pro to 16 pipes? Then again, why should a gamer care about a GPU company's wishes?

isn't it against nvidia's wishes to overclock the 6800gt to ultra speeds ? People still do it .

I have 2 x800pro vivos unlocked to xt speeds. It just wont do much more than xt speeds.

My xt however goes up to 630x580 stock cooling. Could most likely get the ram to 600 and the chip to 650.

If they didn't wnat people to do this they would have cut the bridges or used multiplyers to stop the blanet overclocking.

But ati and nvidia knows the better the overclock the more its going to sell.

everyone agrees that the x800pro is second choice in the 400$ price bracket.

But then there is the vivo that 99% of the time unlocks to the x800xt and suddenly its a hot part again

Before reading the below I'd have said no - wont hurt ATi too much but now I'd say ATi arent really in a great position for future D3 engine games.

(quoted from fireingsquad's doom3 benchmark article)
    Speaks for itself really.

OF course your linking to anand who posted the farcry p.s 3.0 benchmarks with the nv40s not doing fsaa and the x800s doing it. THen change the benchmarks but never the conclusion

No, it's not, jvd. I have the box right here. Not on the box anywhere (or at the start of the game, for that matter).

Well after playing D3 for three days now on my X800 Pro, I would say it is more than adequate. I don't think they are getting owned right now, unless you are a fanboy

Not sure about the pre order boxes, but the fact Nvidia coupons were inside means nothing other than the publisher (activision iirc) cut a deal with NV.
Its hardly evidence of a TWIMTBP collaboration.. your just jumping to conclusions.

And THAT just isn't good enough. You can get a 6800GT for as low as 370 euros while a x800pro vivo costs 450.
The GT you wouldn't even have to overclock and it's still fast. While with the vivo you need to enable 4 pipelines. Most consumers aren't savvy enough to do that. 90% wouldn't even know.

So the GT is cheaper, doesn't need a mod and gets extra SM3.0 bells and whistles. Not a hard choice to make.

Well ATI did get owned, but I just paid for an x800 pro, so obviously it did not make much influence on me.

Well if you look at the actual FPS difference, it's not that much - certainly not enough to influence my buying decision for a game I'll play once.
