Sean McCarthy, CEO of Steorn, commented: “During the years of its development, our technology has been validated by various independent scientists and engineers. We are now seeking twelve of the most qualified and most cynical from the world’s scientific community to form an independent jury, test the technology in independent laboratories and publish their findings.

“We are under no illusions that there will be a lot of cynicism out there about our proposition, as it currently challenges one of the basic principles of physics

It was already discussed .
This is not perpetuum mobile, they just created machine that transforms "dark energy" into "simple energy".
:devilish:

Sounds like they created a machine to turn bullshit into $$$.

Dark energy my ass. First of all, that's not how they explain their device to work. Secondly, there is concrete model of what dark energy actually is, just speculation, only circumstantial evidence for its existence, and certainly no model for hard to turn "dark energy" into "simple energy", whatever the hell that is.

No scientist, except maybe the Amazing Randi is going to take this challenge because it's a waste of time. They could *trivially* prove their device to work by arranging for it to power something for an extended period of time.

Like all free energy claims, it's snake oil + technobabble by people who have no clue about physics (Steorn claimed to be previously in e-commerce, so what the hell does web development have to do with bleeding edge physics? Maybe a complain that is stone cold broke and corrupt is trying to fleece investors)

This shit is second only to bogus miracle compression schemes.

With the words "Irish" and "perpetual motion machine" in the topic, I thought this was going to be a joke.

Like, the kind of joke that you tell, not the kind where you laugh at something that actually happend....
