We've just installed a new feature that will automatically resize large images (those wider than 800px) so that they don't mess up thread formatting for users with lower resolution displays.
Your User CP -> Options page (under Thread Display Options, as shown in the attachment below) has a few new options to customize this new feature to suit your personal preferences. It requires Javascript support, so if you want to use this you'll need to enable Javascript in your browser.
Be aware that this doesn't affect the actual image filesize as it's being downloaded (it just changes dimensions once the image has fully loaded), so remain considerate of those of us less blessed with gobs of bandwidth.
