Heres the deal my cousin has an Alienware PC with Win Xp installed. I helped him use Fdisk and reformat his hard drive. He installed Win 98 and it works fine now and everything else. But when he puts in a Geforce 4 it gets detected as a standard pci adapter ok. He installs the drivers but when he restarts he can't get into Windows it won't boot up, he has to go into safe mode and uninstall the drivers. Do u guys have any idea whats going on????

Yep..sounds like no chipset drivers are installed..If its a new Athlon or P4 motherboard the chipset drivers need to installed 1st ..as Windows 98 is too old to have native support.

So 1st find out which chipset it is. AMD, VIA, INTEL, SIS. ALI then download the latest chipset drivers for that motherboard then Install video drivers.

Make sure you install DirectX 8.1 after chipset & video drivers are installed too.

Although, I usually install DX8.1 before video & sound drivers when using Win9x OS's.
