I have $400 what's the best overall graphics card i can buy?

    I owned a x800 xt pe ($500) and I'll say the 6800 GT (399$) is best bang for buck.

    I don't have personal experience with it, but I haven't heard anything bad about it, and it has a decent warranty.

    Buy.com was actually offering a MSI 6800GT + Doom 3 for ~$400 or less. This would be a better deal than the PNY b/c the MSI has a custom heatsink and fan that's very quiet, according to GamePC's review. The deal may be up, though--check Anandtech's Hot Deals forum for more info.
