How would you react when the PSX3 spec reads 240~480 GFLOPS?

As long as they don't put down other consoles and/or companies, people should feel free to praise whatever they want to.

anyway, how would i react if PS3 cant' reach 1TFlop...?

I think the question be better phrased like HOW WOULD YOU REACT IF PS3 AUDIO/VISUAL CAPABILITIES ARE NO BETTER THAN THE COMPETITIORS' "NORMAL" HARDWARE.

 

It's possible they won't be.
At least not in all areas.
Maybe 'Cell' is not the teraflop monster some people hype it to be.
Maybe PS3 and XB2 and next Nintendo will be quite on par performancewise (as is the case with PS2, XB and GCN).
Then it all depends on games, which console has the games you want to play.
If PS3 is only 1/2 or even 1/4th of a 1TFlop, it will propably be enough for me anyway.
Why should I even 'react' in any way :? It's only a console. And even with lower than promised specs, it will most likely have the games I most want to play.

 

it"s only a console but I remember myself (and a lot of others) going multiple cities to find a ps 2 on Launchday!

uhh.. I was also queuing my PS2 in front of my local supermarket on a launch morning (there was just one other waiting to buy one of the 4 PS2's the store had )
Bought Gladiator DVD with it, and Tekken TAG. Memcards arrived about a week after that.
At that time PS2 was a revelation. I never had a DVD player before and the games did look then much better than any current PC and console games. Sure if you bought the PS2 a year or more after launch, it was not such an 'event'.
In November 2000 it was absolutely amazing to have a PS2

 

Launch memories

I got mine in a 24:00 realese happening. Took the thing into my home, 50 meters away from the shop with all my friends. Played through half of SSX that night and started playing about 5 other games with my friends till 22:00 the other day.

I don't think I will do a similar stunt 2005 (06?), but yeah ... memories.

yes, sweet memories... waking up at 4am and going to the mall... finding 30people already waiting in line outside... panicking...

Luckily there were enough ps2s for everyone(at least for everyone up to me.), it felt quite good.

 

How would *you* personally react if PS3's Audio/video capabilities rolled right over Xbox2?

 

I would just buy my gamecube 2 and be very happy Or do what I plan on doing and making the gamecube my last console and sticking just to my pc. That 900$ i would spend just on the systems about would go to upgrading my pc .

I acually felt bad for alot of people during the launch here. It was a nice 15f and a bunch of people spent the night in front of this mom and pops store that already had all of them preordered.

You know for me personally I find the PS3(and the PS2 to another extent) so interesting because they are doing something completely different from "Normal Hardware". Even if it turned out less powerful then something running off the shelf PC parts I would probably still be more interested in what it's capable of just because it isn't "Normal Hardware" and I get my fill of what ATI or Nvidia can do already in the PC arena. IMO anyway

This is a place where people with a genuine interest in 3d, hardware, and (in this particular forum) consoles, discuss things which are... well... "interesting".

Thus Sony making a bit of kit which is considerably different from the norm technically, is of interest to many people here, regardless of whether it is "better" by some arbitrary definition. If it *does* perform better than a slightly more typical bit of kit, then it's even more interesting. But that's not really the point.

 

Are you saying his curiosity is irrelevant? Interest is interest. It's a personal choice, not a universal one. It's no more invalid than someone who blindly follows another console that only promises the latest and greatest from Intel slapped together with the lastest and greatest from nVidia/ATI. You actually can be comfortably in either camp without needing to demean the other in order to bolster your own.
