    Hi guys. I know I haven't posted in about 6 months but I feel some clarification of the arb vs. arb2 path is in order.

    Digitalwanderer.. The reason the arb path didn't work for you is because you have a 9700. You should have used arb2. And actually, it DID work for you. But you told Doom2 that you had an 8500 or less.

    arb = r200 (radeon 8500, which can't do arb2)

    arb2 = r300 and higher.

    I assume you mean an X800XT PE at stock speeds. Am I right?

    Humus,

    FRAMERATE DOUBLED!

    THANK you very much for the tweak!

    My pitful Radeon 9600 Pro has gone from a mere 18.1 frames per second all the way to 36.4 frames per second (TIMEDEMO DEMO1 USECACHE). That's an amazing 50% jump in performance. 1024x768 Medium with all effects turned on including shadows and specular. Athlon XP 2800 with 512MB RAM.

    I do have triplebuffering turned on, and the 9600 benefits more from this ATI tweak so that's part of the reason of so HUGE a performance boost. I did not make other tweaks. (Triple buffering amplifies the performance improvement this tweak makes.)

    The 18.1 frames per second was with using existing tweaks to DoomConfig.cfg .... 8X anisotropic filtering, high quality ansio/mipmaps. No changes to these settings, and I got 36.4 frames per second with these tweaks with all the proper visual effects.

    I get well over 40 frames per second if I ease up on some details, but I like full detail including 8X ansio and full shadows/specular. And this is a mere 9600 Pro, not even a 9800.

    1024x768 Medium
    All Doom 3 effects on including Shadows and Specular
    8X Ansio in Catalyst Control Center
    High Quality Ansio in Catalyst Control Center
    High Quality Mipmaps in Catalyst Control Center
    (No AA though)
    Catalyst 4.9

    No overclocking at all!

    Note: I updated the file inside the .pk4 AND also added to base\glprogs .... That may have been an error, but might have something to do with my bigger improvements in performance; possibly if the file outside the .pk4 is not as effective;

    Mark

    How is 18FPS to 36FPS a 50% improvement? What grade are you in? It's a 200% improvement.

    18 to 36 is a 100% improvement. Glass houses, stones and all that.

    sorry if this is a stupid question but..

    for the first iteration of the humus tweak ti said to update the .pk4 file with WInRAR, is this no longer necessary as the new ReadMe says to just unload in the Base folder

    if i dont update the .pk4 file will it still work or will one take priority (the one in the /base/glprog foilder or the one in the pkfile

    thanks
    great thread

    Original performance = 18fps = 100%
    If you get an extra 18fps then the improvement is 100%, not 200%.

    Where you in his grade? :lol:

    Re: How to boost your Doom3 performance by 40% on ATI hardwa

    Am I doing something wrong? Here is what I did:

    I open WinRar and double click on pak000.pk4 and glprogs. Then in options, selected Settings. In Viewer, I selected External viewer. On External viewer name, I typed in where my note pad is located at.

    Then I opened the interaction.vfp(in note pad form). I copy and paste PARAM specExp = { 16, 0, 0, 0 }; and POW R1, specular.x, specExp.x; where you mentioned above.

    I saved the changes and closed the note pad and then WinRar but it didn't ask me if I want to update the file in the archive. And also, when I opened interaction.vfp again, I noticed that the chages I made on it has not been saved.

    So what am I doing wrong here? Please help~ :?:

    just extract the glprogs folder from the rar file to doom3/base.

    That's all that's needed.:)

    I got the latest Humus tweak so since I have the latest Humus tweak do I still need to update the interaction file?? like this:

    Code:
    PARAM subOne = { -1, -1, -1, -1 };
    PARAM scaleTwo = { 2, 2, 2, 2 };
    Add this right below them

    Code:
    PARAM specExp = { 16, 0, 0, 0 };
    Now scroll down to this

    Code:
    # perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
    TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;
    Comment out that line by adding a "#" to it, and add another line that will do the same thing with math instead, so it should look like this:

    Code:
    # perform a dependent table read for the specular falloff
    # TEX R1, specular, texture[6], 2D;
    POW R1, specular.x, specExp.x;

    Do I aftoo do all that even if I have the latest Humus tweak? :?

    No you don't. The file is all you need. I edited the first post of this thread yesterday due to all this confusion that's still going on here even though it has been explained a hundred times already.
