How many polygons/s can Cayman really do?

I was playing with Nvidia's island demo on my 6970 and was astounded by the poor performance. I'm getting about 100M tri/s with all the options turned on, and 240M with everything off. The 6970 should be capable of around 1.4 billion assuming ( 2 setup engines). So why the 7-14x lower performance?

I also tested at something like 100x100 resolution to get rid of any shading limits.

    P.S. I cranked it all the way to 163Mtri/frame and I'm getting 1.5fps or 244tri/s, at 5M tri/frame I get 43fps or 215Mtri/s

Yeah..so either something is broken on my system or something strange is going on with the Nvidia demo. The 6970 should be over 2x faster than the card you have...and you're getting 500M tri/s in that screenshot!!!

I've seen 1462M triangles (actually, I don't know for sure if just set up or also drawn) in Xvox for HD 6970 with launch drivers. For comparison, here are some equally created numbers in the screens down below in the Xvox screenshots.

GTX 480 is slightly above 1600M while GTX 470 is slightly below HD 6970 in this test.

So, Cayman is fully capable of doing two polygons per cycle.

I tested out Xvox and get about 1370M tri/s, so I suppose it's something with the "island" demo that is slowing things down. Thanks for the feedback!!
