Hotmail and SPAM.

From the situation getting better and better at a low-point around 2002 or thereabouts, it is now steadily getting worse in my hotmail inbox. It's the usual junk about lonely ("desperate") housewives, manhood enlargement, herbal viagra shit and meds blowouts whatever the hell that is, debt consolidation and so on.

Where and who do I write to complain about all this crap?! It's becoming intolerable - AGAIN!

i get about 10 junk mails per day in my hotmail account.

by now i'm very confident in my ability to name by heart every way to enlarge a penis

thank you hotmail

What I want to know is how these buggers know that I'm underendowed. Some sort of secret webcam maybe? Or perhaps it's George Bush spying on me...

Isn't hotmail a free service?
Yes, but I place emphasis on "service" and not "free".

If they can't - or won't - keep the spam out (something they were quite efficient at up until at least last year I might add), their business will suffer as a result of it.

I'm sure they place emphasis on the latter. Besides, they probably want to make money so selling addresses to spammers would be beneficial.

I already sent them a mail complaining about the declining standard of their spam filter (surely spammers haven't suddenly just become clever enough to circumvent them).

Strangely it all seemed to coincide with the new Live mail platform coming into service. I wonder if there's a connection and the new Live systems just aren't up to scratch yet.

Time will tell.

Not really. After all, they have to pay to receive, route and store all that spam shit, and there's hardly enough money in the "selling addresses" market to make up for it.

What address did you mail to? Hope it doesn't get filtered out as spam... :D

(surely spammers haven't suddenly just become clever enough to circumvent them).
Absolutely not, from scanning the topic lines it's just the same nonsense we've seen for at least half a decade now.

Yes, I noticed that too. Wonder if they're trying to push people into a certain direction, perhaps into a paid subscription of some form...? NAAAAH! That can't be it; microsoft would never do such a wicked thing! :D

I know for a fact that one email address of mine on a proper private server, which I never used for anything but this little experiment, started receiving all sorts of spam shortly after sending a test mail to a benign hotmail account.

I then killed the email address off the server because I could.

my account seems fine... all the spam goes into the junk mail folder and I just clear it every now and then. Nothing ever gets into my inbox. *shrug* It's certainly better than Shaw and the UofA services.
