SkillUp loved it, so that’s good enough for me

PS5 difference is even smaller than I was expecting. Better LOD, more ground clutter, more ground flora cast shadows and various other minor improvements. Tessellation seems mostly used to change the silhouette of some objects. There seems to be very little displacement mapping of surfaces which is a much better use IMO. The ocean rendering is the one area that looks fundamentally different. None of the footage in this video showcases the geometric complexity of the early videos.

What they achieved on a base PS4 though is marvelous. It def appears lower than 1080p though. Maybe CB up to 1080p.

though they had to almost halve the res from the first game on base Ps4.
They must be using the same tech they used for Killzone SF multiplayer mode.

Which is good for the large msjority who are stuck on base ps4 hardware. They just get somewhat lower settings generally. Playing on a 1080p screen it wouldnt be so bad at all.

It's impressive what they have achieved technically for the game.
Crazy what they have achieved on an 8 year old console and how optimised the game is.
But the difference between PS4 and PS5 is lesser than I expected. Someone may either be disappointed that the PS5 wasnt pushed more or that the PS4 is so amazingly well done that it looks so close to the much more powerful and impressive PS5 version

Loading times alone show they had to put more effort in the ps4 version which was still the main version. But that's a wonderful swansong for the system.

Pre-ordered long time ago...there comes nothing close to the level of excitement while waiting for a new Sony AAA game these days...hype exceeding all bounds :runaway:

PS: except a FROM game of course

disappointing loading times for a first party game, nice they added folliage interactivity, hero lightning shows big improvement in some scenes but have feeling quality generaly is not on level of first gameplay trailer that looks awsome, btw 1080p cb on ps4 must be first time we seen

    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...XGqlGJ0jihnSFRqz24bHyiRSRhq7clcts9NYZOgXlPXAY

Official EuroGamer Review of the game. Some snippits:

''There are still unnaturally moving, dead-eyed characters in sequences, likely due to not using mo-cap for everything''

''In short there is a discovery problem.''

''This is a shame, particularly since the new weapons in particular are a lot of fun - bolt blasters, essentially the machine guns of the Horizon universe, are perhaps slightly overpowered, but make up for this by the slow reload times and weight, which influences Aloy's dodge.''

    ''Other improvements are equally troublesome.''

''A lot of what hasn't improved - or has, in places, become markedly worse - is connected to the story.''

''But that thrill of discovery is now mostly gone, and what we're left with is the story of a world that's dying because someone didn't debug it regularly. Much of Forbidden West's narrative issues are frustratingly embargoed, but know that at times it will go fully off the rails into wild, nonsensical sci-fi. Its ending is tedious and anticlimactic. Before you get there, you'll encounter some oddly pro-military cringe, oodles of "don't ask" logical leaps, and antagonists almost entirely devoid of personality and, strangely, screen time.''

    ''There are other frustrations.''

    ''It's a real shame.''
