hehehe; lets not stroke mr. Anon's e-penis any more than we have to. He sounds like he's tooting his own horn. Hell; after all; about 20 minutes after he made that very statement; he said "WARNING VALVE; TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS THE TRUTH OR I WILL RELEASE THE PRE-GOLD VERSION OF THIS GAME" which means he's lying about something somewhere. maybe everywhere.
for all we know this anon fellow had nothing to do with it and he just happened to download a beta off of bittorrent or something and he's pimping around like its all his fault.

Can sombody please explain to me why the source code leak would cause a delay in the games release? I mean obviously cracking the game and cheating are going to be much easier thanks to this but there still the single player part...

Half-Life's success comes from it's online play and it's many MOD's. Not from the Single player, although I'm sure it will be pretty good.

But Valve's *money* comes from the single player. If you look at the number of people playing online, compared to the people who bought the game and never went online, the online communty is a drop in the ocean. Online play and mods may have kept the game popular with 30 thousand odd people for the last few years, but the single player is what sold a million.

The same thing happened with UT2K, a nearly pure online game. There is no single-player story, just a bot simulation of online players. Epic sold a million copies, but only 5-6 thousand people play online. Epic made their money from those that bought the game but never go online.

    Hmm hacker type thief writes:

and this fresh in over at NVNews:

Now we are still waiting for comfirmation that the above is true but...

Taking so called hackers statement and mixing it up with athlonxp1800's findings and a large pinch of salt you seem to get the ultimate conspiracy theorists wet dream.

Valve had six million dollars worth of incentive to favour ATI over NVidia and it would seem that they both decided to play it nasty in order to put NV in an even worse light than they've managed themselves.

And if that's true then it's turned round and bitten them on the ass, ATI down six milion dollars and Valve screwed without a product.

Dirty tricks abound. Strange that NV have had nothing much to say about the subject but I would think they are sitting around gloating right now.

Many People don't buy Half life for it's single player though. They buy it for the multiplayer.

Multiplayer is a big thing in the half life world, it's what keeps the game selling.

As I said above, Valve will ship a million copies of HL2, but you'll only see several thousand players online - the vast majority will never play online. The great majority of people buy the game for the single player.

You expecting a press release, or maybe an open letter?

    "Dear Valve,

    HAHA!

    Sincerely,
    Nelson"

For a six figure mistake by the opposition I'd expect a Hallmark card at least :D

I guess it would all depend on what has actually happend and how much of the supposition floating out in the ether is true.

Don't the chinese have a curse that goes along the lines of "May you live in interesting times"? Well, these are pretty interesting times!

I have a question with that claim. If HL2 is really that unfinished, why did Valve start up its hype engine so early? They should be well aware that they couldn't deliver on time and being so adamant to the Sep 30 delivery date till the last moment is not going to do any good. Valve have been relatively quiet for the past ~4.5yrs, I don't think another 6-12months would make a difference unless there's still more to that?

I can tell you this is a pack of deceptions:
    My R9800Pro runs it 1024x768x32 E3 maps at 100+FPS.
The game runs ONLY in DirectX. In the game: Options: Video, there is an option to set OpenGL, but it doesn't use it. It still uses only DirectX, no OpenGL.

    Poor Nividiot...

Edit: I believe, that since Source Code is out, if in it there was ANYTHING that would hinder GFFX performance on purpose, it would be all over the internet by now.

The nv3x tested on a 5800ultra (thats all i have) uses a mix mode path. There are also many features missing when running the game with an fx card. Surfaces do not shine like they do on the 9700pro (used a 9700pro to keep everything even) . The 9700pro also gets over 90fps in this leak. This demo is also not a finished product and I have my doubts this is how the final game will be . Do not bother downloading this leak. its on the same level as the doom 3 alpha . It is not worth it and will spoil your view on half life 2

Actaully during its hay day CounterStrike hit over 60,000 players at any give time playing on public servers (thus many more players on lans or privite servers). If you have 60,000+ at any time then over the course of just one day, you have a potential to have a heck of a lot more then that. Then factor in not every one played CS every day (I usally played a few days a week) so over the course of one week, then you get even a bigger number, ect.

So I agree that signle player will help drive this title. However there are a lot more MP out there then your giving credit to. You have two mods for the MP part that now have their own titles (CS and DoD).

As for the MP usage of HL1, I have seen fairly reliable reports (sorry, no link) that there are around 200,000 players, whereof about 40,000 really active. And that's in Sweden only.

Maybe Valve wanted to hype it so that they could try to make id show all the nifty tricks that D3 can do, then they can tweak their stuff and make it better :). That is what people have been saying about D3, that they had "delayed" it to make it better to compete with HL2, even tho unlike HL@ there was no release date so it is hard to be delayed.
