You honestly don't see nVidia as being able to profit from this leak in any way? You honestly don't believe this will cause a delay of HL2 being released?

I have real trouble understanding if you answered "yes" twice. :(

No, I don't see how anybody would stand to make many millions of dollars from a delay of HL2.

No, I don't see any appreciable delay of HL2 due to the leaking of the code.

So NO, I don't see a straight line between "leak source code" and "profit" that makes an arrow point back to NVIDIA.

Clearly, I must be a stupid fanboi.

I am afraid I'm going to have to agree with Caps on this one Russ.

Maybe you shouldn't get your alternate logins confused while congratulating yourself?

Hmm, i must say, the first and the last one dont make sense to me to. Second one is pretty logic.

I don't have an alternate log in. That was called humour.
And of course the extra humerous part is- its so true.

What about CD-keys? What if the code for authenticating them was included in the leak (sounds likely)? What if they already had batches generated and ready for use?

If Half-life2 ships today, with the known best platform being ATI...who will be selling more graphics cards "to play half-life2"?

If Hlf-Life2 is delayed until '04, and if the best platform changes from ATI to nVidia because of new product releases...who stands to make more money then?

Have you addressed the need for Valve to re-vamp security measures, particularly wrt Steam?

No, but you are being pretty blind to not see the obvious possible delay implications of source code being released. And I'd also say you're pretty blind to think that a delay in HL2 could hurt ATI sales, and consequently help nVidia sales....

The company I'd see most likely to "gain many millions of dollars" from a delay of the game would be iD.

Their product, DoomIII, is a direct competitor to HL2.

But that idea is silly too.

What if the Steam source was leaked along with the Source source Russ, can you see Valve mebbe wanting to re-code a bit of it to prevent releasing a security fricking nightmare on their customers?

Yes, I'd agree with you. Though I think you didn't mean to say what you just said.

I really don't feel that D3 & HL2 ARE gonna be in competition, anyone who's interested in one is going to be just as interested in the other.

They'll be the two top games of their genre, I think they'll both do ok. ;)

Sorry, Joe. I'm going to have to disagree with the effect that a delayed HL2 will have on sales of ATI cards.

You'd have to delay the game at least 6 months or so before NVIDIA would have any appreciably different lineup, and I don't think that's happening due to the leak, or even remotely forseeable.

Keeping HL2 from the market wouldn't prevent anybody from discovering how badly NVIDIA's products suck either, because we've got plenty of benchmarks out there now that show it is clearly 2nd place when it comes to DX9.

The is about as damning of evidence as the whole CIA purpotrated the WTC attacks so that we could blame Iraq and invade for oil line of thinking.

Doubt it - ATI already said there would be a redeemable voucher in the box if HL2 wasn't out yet. You send it off and you get the CDs in the mail. ATI will just be shipping boxes with vouchers for however many months it takes. The same thing happened when 3DFX shipped the V5500 with Unreal Tournament.

I can guarantee you that there is at least on delayed sale of an ATI card that corresponds exactly with the Half-Life delay. That would be me.(Please see my threads in the hardware forum about starting to build my new PC...before the hl2 leak occurred....if you think I'm just lying here.)

I'm pretty sure that ATI and it's partners would rather have my money now, than later. Getting later entails risk that they won't get my money at all, as I'm sure you would agree.

You're assuming of course, there's no "paper launches" of products before hand, complete with HL2 benchmarks and hype. See NV30 and Doom3 for a reminder.

Russ, for the 500th damn time....no one is talking about evidence. So stop arguing against things that no one is bringing up.

Myself, I blame that wily Carmack guy. He's always trying to cause trouble...

Though granted I hadn't considered the Kevin Bacon angle before...!

Yeah...I heard he was running short of funds on his rocket building mission, and decided to hold HL2 code hostage to get some extra change...apparently Valve didn't kick in enough!

    Lol....
