I have a locked copy of HL2 on my harddrive as well downloaded from Steam. What does it mean exactly "going gold?"

Considering that Valve is supposed to be working hard on wrapping up the game and also considering that the HL2 preload is supposed to contain the game resources I just don't think it is very likely. A further point against it is that it would be imprudent for a public figure like Gabe Newell to throw things like 'ass lickers' around on public fora, although the rest of the posts in question sounds plausible enough overall regarding tone and style.

It is not completely inconceivable that beta-testing uncovered a piece of hot steel in HL2 that looked out of place or somebody just had a red-hot ( :D ) idea for spicing up an existing cutscene but that piece of steel would have to feature very prominently and very close up for this to be even remotely plausible. I think it is more likely to be just another hoax.

request was from the begining of the month ago and in regards to "final texture clean-up", so what is so unlikely?

he said "ass-kisser" and "boot-licker", both of which are socialy accepted terms.
