Those reviews are just full of funny looking symbols I think there's something wrong with my browser.

Now this is a respectable Nvidia card. It pretty much makes the 465 irrelevant and if IHVs release factory overclocked 460's it could render the 470 irrelevant also. I have a feeling we won't see any factory overclocked parts until IHVs manage to move their existing stock of 470 parts.

Now there might finally be a reason for ATI to lower the price of 5850, although 5870 isn't threatened as of yet.

Still won't be buying or promoting Nvidia cards for at least another year however due to other issues. But it's definitely nice to see how well they executed on GTX 460.

Better late than never I suppose. At least this time although being almost half a year behind at least they have a good product that completely outdoes anything else in the 230 USD price range. I'm with Anandtech on questioning 768 MB of vram in the 200 USD price point in this day and age however.

    Regards,
    SB

They are already out there, the factory overclocked models. Palit/Gainward for example.

Looks pretty good. Its a strange feeling to finally have an Nvidia card which changes up the market for once. I think this one ought to sell very well, or very very well depending on A. How long until more, fresher ATI cards come out. B. If theres a price cut on the old tried and true.

It seems to offer the performance/watt and performance/die area promised by the original Fermi architecture. So it shows Nvidia does have a good architecture, G100 just wasn't a good showcase of that.

It's also most likely untrue, considering that the general consensus over the past 2 or so GPU generations has been that ATI offers inferior filtering quality.

This looks like a really good card. It also points out the problem in AMD's lineup: They're missing a good card at the 200$. Even though the 5830 seems to be down to 199$, it's not good enough. In most cases the 5830 loses to 460 and it has a higher power usage. 5830 also has a quite poor reputation so if I could decide, AMD should cancel the 5830 and drop the 5850 to 200$ :)

The way I read it is he knows this and is questioning why tech report would say something like that. But I wouldn't put words on his mouth, maybe I'm wrong

I think Scott is simply misinformed in this case. He is no mouthpiece for ATI, that's for sure.

I actually assumed the same as Mendel, but I don't keep track of people's glasses color ;) I do occasionally go researching their preference when looking at threads, though...

In any case, I agree that the 460 is a pretty spectacular showing by NV. Good job, green. I'm also of the mind that ATI needs to get their prices back to earth, but maybe this is the catalyst (ha!) that gets that change moving.

I'm also agreeing with SB - I have no interest in giving NV any of my business in the near future due to some shenanigans I feel they've pulled with the community as a whole. But I'll certainly give them their due on this particular chip.

Any sign of die size? Extrapolated from GF100's size and trasistor count it should measure about 345mm². Extrapolated from RV870's specs., it should have about 305mm²...

The question si whether the supply of GF104 will be good enough to lower demand for HD5850 significantly. Current demand is much higher than supply, so ATi has no reason to change pricelist.

There's also another interesting thing - HD5850 was released 10 months ago, it's still faster than GTX460-1GB and its last year's price was lower than current price of GTX460-1GB. It's interesting to read reactions of some users, who called HD5850 overpriced for its performance (last year), but who are know impressed by price/performance of GTX460

Not all textures are processed by trilinear or anisotropic filter, aren't they?

In many games i get a choice, I always choose anisotropic, on older games the choice is sometimes between bilinear + trilinear I always choose trilinear then ani in the control panel
